Don Meredith

When I was a kid growing up in Dallas my dad took me to the Cotton Bowl
to watch the Cowboys on many occasions.
Don Meredith was one of my favorites.
Of course he later became well known on Monday Night Football.
I always enjoyed the way he aggravated Howard.
Don died Sunday at the age of 72.

Rest in Peace "Dandy Don"

I sure hate to hear this. He was one of my favorites when I watched pro football. Enjoyed him on Monday night football but hated Howard Cosell.

Here is a little story for you. As you recall Don played college ball at SMU. Bear Bryant tried to recruit him for Texas A & M and Don told Bear I would really love to play for you Bear but I just can't go to school out in the sticks. He preferred the big city life so he went to SMU.

Just saw this on the news at noon. I liked Dandy Don as the Dallas QB in the 60's and as a burr in Howard Cosell's saddle on Monday Night Football. A brain hemorrhage killed him. A sad day for the older NFL fans.

Aw, this is too bad. I grew up watching Dandy Don and Howard Cosell on MNF. RIP Mr. Meredith. You can now join Howard in the big broadcast booth in the sky...

I have never been much of a football fan, but even I knew the name and face of Dandy Don.

Like Bud Man, I too used to go to Dallas Cowboy games as a kid and watch Dandy Don quarterback. That was back when the two words "Cotton Bowl" meant something.

As a teenager, I watched Don bring some life to an otherwise stuffy group of guys on Monday Night Football.

My favorite thing he did: One night on Monday Night Football, Vice President Spiro Agnew made a visit. On the air, Don told him, "I didn't vote for ya, but that's a nice suit you have on".

My favorite saying of his: "He's such a perfectionist, if he were married to Dolly Parton, he would expect her to cook".

Don was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, TX... just about 40 miles from where I am.
