My VN brother....

Each year it is with heavy heart that remember my time in the jungles of VN. Although there were others that received our nations highest honor in VN. The man that always comes to my mind when my thoughts go back to those days is the below individual who by the way just passed away a few yrs ago in Pueblo.

Never quit! Never say die. Stay in the fight.

Remember MSgt Roy P. Benavidez and all those who have served and are serving not only on Veteran’s Day, this Thursday, but every day.

They are what keeps this great nation free and provides the light of hope for the world.

Anyone who has a relative that served in the military during the Viet Nam war and you find they just DO NOT want to talk about their time over there this Vets Day, don't press them. It was probably their personal hell on earth. In all likelihood it just brings back memories that are to traumatic and vivid to deal with. They have moved on and will not talk about their time over there. Accept that and thank them for their service. But this video "tango-mike-mike" will give you a small glimpse as to what it was like for our military over there..........

SPEAKERS ON !!!!! and may God Bless our military no matter where they are serving today.

What an amazing story. I joined the USMC in 1971 and expected to go to VN but was lucky and never made it west of the Mississippi River. I thank God every time I hear about the horrors of that war.

I went in the army in late 1967. I found out later, I was a "draft-induced volunteer." For some reason, the army thought this recently-graduated high-school jock was a candidate to become a German linguist. I spent a year and a half in Monterey, CA learning German, a couple months in San Angelo, Texas learning why I shouldn't tell people about what I was going to be doing, and the rest of my tour in Berlin listening to the phone lines of the East German government.
I have two high school friends with names on the Wall in DC. Even though I live a little over an hour away, I've only been there twice--I don't like blubbering in public.

That is a truly amazing documentary. My hat is off to all the hero's in the military and to all who have served, past, present, and future.

Thanks for sharing that Wompus!

After this link of the traveling wall here near me I have a couple pictures below. Note in the article, the sad footnote of a WW II Veteran killed while setting up the wall. What the article does not mention is the man driving the van was also a WW II Navy veteran and seeing him on the news he is incredibly distraught: http://www.dispatch.com/live/content...erans-day.html
A couple of pictures from my visit yesterday:

Thanks again for sharing that, and to all Veterans for their service!

Although I'm a VN combat vet I've never made it to any of the walls. I don't think I could handle it very well.

Maybe one day I'll make it........

Mike, even though I never made it to VN I've seen the traveling wall twice and both times brought tears to my eyes. It is very moving.

MSgt Roy P. Benavidez was a heck of a fighting man. He deserved the Medal of Honor.

Being stationed at Fort Meade, MD for over three years I had the opportunity to go down and see The Wall and the first name I looked for was Jerry Collier and boy that I graduated from high school with. There are actually two names on it that I knew personally. The other is Kenneth Lasseter that was a year younger than me.

I also saw the Traveling Wall about two years back at Guntersville, AL. Both are really moving and when you read and see the names on either Wall you aren't human if it doesn't bring tears to your eyes.

Thanks for that post WOMPUS, and a "thank you" to you and the others here for your service!

I've been to the Wall in DC once; and I did shed tears, who can see it and not cry?

We have a great country, I just hope we can hold on to Her.
