air mod

I did the Coyote air mod per Gadget's website on my 2001 carbed Nomad around the first of the year. I'm sure there are other air mods like the Thunder kit or Hypercharger for our carbed 1500s, but I chose to go with the lesser expensive Coyote version of the Thunder kit. I also went with the 8-1/2 inch K&N filter with the 8-1/2 inch Moroso cover. K&N doesn't make an 8-1/2 inch cover for their 8-1/2 inch filter, that I could find. Hope this helps. Gadget's website on this is :
http://www.gadgetjq.com/coyotekitmod...structions.htm

P.S. . . . . picture below was before mod. Left side air filter is completely gone now.

air mod

CajunRider posted a thread about air modification on the Nomad topics board but his bike is newer and has fuel injection. You might take a look at his thread. Not sure if it will work on your '99 or not.

air mod

I think it was worth it IMO. You can really hear the open air intake sucking air, mainly when idling. Seems to have more noticeable acceleration to me, although I'm not one to "dog" it a lot. I thought that by going with the larger main jet (172) and larger pilot jet (45), as suggested in Gadget's website and other VROC member suggestions, it would really hurt the mpg, but actually got better. Am now getting 40-43 mpg keeping it at 65mph or below on average, which is better than I was getting before. You never know though. Like they always say, not every bike may react the same way. Each bike may be different. Good luck.
