Gooey and screwy

Hi All,
There is residue from a sticker I think on my hardbag. Will that material withstand the same things that metal painted body parts do like adhesive remover or acetone? I want to make sure what I use doesn't melt plastic or fiberglass whichever they're made of.

2nd...does anyone know the proper length of the bolts that attach the passenger floor boards to frame? I suspect mine are too long and are reaching the end of the threaded portion. Or I need to get a metric tap and chase the threads.

thanks

I used alcohol to remove the sticky stuff that was left on my gas tank and bags. You could probably use goo-gone or a similar product.

Can't help you on the floorboard question.

Acetone is a fairly strong solvent. It can melt the surface of plastics, but will have little effect on cured polyester resin
( fiberglass ) as it is often used as a pre repair cleaner on fiberglass. I would not use it as a decal glue remover on painted surfaces. Try applying a varsol, or mild paint thinner socked rag and give it time to soak into the glue and soften it.

Heating the residue with a hair dryer may help also.

+1 on the WD-40. It really works good and I finished up with a little wax. Can't tell they were even there.

Why did I think the title of this thread was a love story about SWB and Todd???

WD-40 it avoid acetone period This on clear coat and has paint under it right????
Not inside the bags on black plastic right???

I have no idea how long the bolt in question should be. There is 2 options pull and install flat washes between the brakets and frame to shorten the bolt reach or buy shorter bolts.

a 3rd option might be cut threads more on the bolts. Are these not stock bolts?

I put a wet towel on it for a while and then it just rubbed off.

Gooey and screwy

The gooey is on the outside of the bag. When I removed those gaudy emblems off my Vstar tank, I finally got the gooey off with an adhesive remover that is supposed to be safe with painted surfaces and it worked fine. But that was on metal. Logically, I suppose, if it won't eat through the paint, it won't harm the bag. Is the bag painted with the same paint as the fuel tank?

As for the bolts, I assume they're stock, but I've been wrong about that before on this bike. The bolt IRC is 40 mm long. When tightened all the way down, the first 2 or 3 threads on the inboard end get mashed as if they were cross threaded. Thinking it was the bolt, I bought a new 40 mm long bolt and I can feel it start to do the same thing. This is happening at the most inboard extremity of the hole in the frame so theonly explaination I can come up with is the bolt is too long and reaching a smooth portion or someobstruction. This happens in both holes by the way. Therefore, I thought, maybe a shorter bolt would be in order. Thanks

I left mine on about a year before trying to remove and I never got them off with anything. Covered them up with bag chaps.
