What Did She Do Wrong?

We came home today from a nice trip to WV to meet up with some Kawasaki friends we hadn't seen in a while. The only problem, was that we had no cell phone service where we were staying and riding in the mountains!!!! We had a friend go down and couldn't call 911! Another friend and I jumped on our bikes and rode to find help.

So, now we are trying to figure out what she did.

It was a hairpin turn. Most of us were ahead of her and didn't see the actual event. One friend was behind her, but he was so shook up by what he saw that he doesn't know, other than a few observations: He said she was going too fast for that turn. He said when she started going off the road, sparks were flying from under her bike. The bike landed on it's right side. Our friend had to lift the back of the bike for her to get her leg out.

Most think if sparks were flying, she must have been sliding on her crash bar. Some think she started leaning the bike and throttling up too late into the turn. What do you think?

By the way, I am happy to report that she got brusied up real bad, but no broken bones!!!

Where her bike went off

You can get an idea of the turn here and also see the scrape mark on the road

What Did She Do Wrong?

Can't see the pics here at work CheriAnn. I'll give them a look when I get home in the morning. Happy to hear that she wasn't badly injured.

What Did She Do Wrong?

I was looking over my pictures again and I realized that she had some damage to her jacket on the left side! When the bike stopped, it was over and pinning her right leg......strange....

What Did She Do Wrong?

Judging from the pics and what you said,I would say she layed into the curve too far and lost traction. From there it was just a matter of momentum. The bike slid on the left side until it hit the softer ground and forward momentum caused it to flip to the right side.
Glad her injuries weren't any worse than bruises.

I'm with Wondering Nomad. She probably got into the curve a little quicker than she realized then tried to take the necessary action to make the curve. The bike lean too far and the floorboards and maybe even the crash bars were dragging. I am sure the floorboards were dragging. Those would probably hit the road first on a sharp curve. Then the bike got too close to the edge of the road and she just lost it then.

Glad she wasn't hurt too badly. Could have been a lot worse.

Those explanations sound good to me but what does she say? She could've gone in to fast heard/felt the boards touch an straightened the bike up for a moment due to the surprise of the floor boards touching and then the rest was to late. Sounds to me like she high sided on the right too.

The floorboards scrapping can be unnerving if you aren't prepared for it. It looks like she was sliding for awhile prior to going off the pavement though.

Oh yes, that long mark in the pavement is from her bike!

Hard to really tell from these pictures. My bet is she came into the corner too fast and then leaned the bike over too far and caught the floor board. That scrape is a nice long straight scrape.

The scrape is a straight line which means there was no traction. Had to be the crash bars as the tires would still be in contact with the road providing some sort of traction if it was the floorboards and the scrape would then be curved.

My guess is the was a break in concentration and she came into the curve too hot and the bike came out from under her. Looks like a relatively soft landing in the ditch though.

Lucky girl.
