With few exceptions OEM seats are poor. In my wifes words,"the Nomad seat is like sitting on a brick". I'm a big fan of Ultimate Seats. I had one on a VTX 1300 and put 2559 miles on it in 5 days with no discomfort. BUT, the last time I checked the price list you're looking at nearly $900 for front and rear. Nomad seats will be available in April. dkdixie put me in touch with a guy in Palm City, Fl that will modify my seats for $100. They are being shipped Monday morning. I'll let you know how the work. If you're interested check him out. www.greatdaytoride.com

Seen this site before and look forward to your thoughts on the final result. Comfort and changed seating position if any. Gotta love the quick turn around time.

There are a few places that will modify your existing seats, I have a Piper modified seat. And there are a couple of sights that show you how to do your own changes. It seems rather simple to do once you see it. The fellow your using sure seems to be good at turn around time, if it cures the monkey butt its well worth it.

Anyone looking for butt relief might want to try to do it yourself.

I just ordered memory foam from this site http://www.knoxfoam.com/
2 18" X 18" 1" thick memory foam.

Here are a few links from another board with step by step instructions:

http://www.shadowaero750.com/files/seat2.pdf

http://www.shadowaero750.com/files/gelpack.pdf

http://www.shadowaero750.com/files/memoryfoam.doc

I'll let you all know how it turns out. IF all else fails, I'll spring for an aftermarket seat.

Dixie, Yes on the 24 - 48 hour turn around. He said I'll sit lower and further back in a pocket. My main concern if my wife's comfort. She's 70 and I'd like to keep her riding as long as possible. When we were down in Florida we rode 200 miles one day and after she rode about 75 miles her a$$ was on fire. Sure hope it works. If not I'm springing for an Ultimate.

I once knew an iron butt type guy who claimed that his secret was wearing those padded bicycle pants under his riding pants. Personally, I've never tried it, but I might get some for my wife. Girls don't usually need extra padding there, but mine is a tad shy in the buns dept.

Redeye,
She's gonna raise hell if I have to buy a seat. I'd be in divorce court if I went for a sidecar.

CaddmannQ, I read that some pro football players wore pantyhose to keep warm. Ain't goin there or with the padded bike pants. It just ruins the image, even if you can't see them someone will put the word out.

I run the '06 Nomad seat on my '03 Classic as it's much better than the stock '03. Although I run a Corbin on my Nomad now, but if I had to pay today's prices, I'd look at modifying the stock'r myself.... Man, the cost of a seat today is crazy!

Hey oldbiker, I told Cindy what your wife said about the stock seat on the Nomad. She said your wife should take a ride on the stock seat of a Yamaha silverado.
Before I changed the seat on that she would have to stop after 15 miles. One time I stopped to let her get off the bike and her foot was asleep she almost tipped my bike over when she fell on the ground No it wasn't funny, honest ;)

When I ride it's usually all day and I also do several overnighters each year.
I tried to re contour my original seat and added memory foam. I helped a lot, but not enough.

The folks at Mustang told me that it seemed that large riders complained about fit on the 1600 Nomads.
Corbin was much more $$ but they will pull the cover off and re contour the seat...I found out that they'll only do that to the extent that their stock seat cover will still fit.
So I checked out Russell's Day Long Saddles. The seat was about the same $$ as a Corbin. I chose to do the Ride-In service ($80 extra) and had custom seat made to fit me in 1-day. Because my wife and I are larger...I had to pay an additional $90 ($45 ea) for heavyweight suspension...yep they actually added upholstery springs in the foam. So the total OTD was $770. (Typical seat cost $560) I put on 1800 miles in the next 3 weekends on 3 trips. I can ride all day...Day after Day...and never get a sore butt.
