Sleeping bag

Since my old Coleman sleeping bag got ruined several years ago, I have been sort of looking for a new one. Well this past weekend I was at Costco and noticed a sleeping bag on display. It's called a "SleepCell" and is kind of an "oversized mummy" bag (40"x90"). It's rated to 10° F and weighs about 6 lbs. Instead of one zipper, it has two, one on either side of center. It also has side and foot mesh vents that you can unzip and open up for warmer weather. It has two pockets to hold small items and a built in pillow pocket with an inflatable pillow. The exterior is ripstop nylon and the interior is a soft, microfiber lining. All this for only $30! I have learned from experience if you see something you like at Costco, you'd better buy it because you may never see it again, so I bought one.

I haven't camped in years, since my kids were much younger - but you never know when the opportunity may present itself. I have a self-inflating mattress and a small, lightweight tent I bought a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I thought I'd mention this in case anybody is looking for a decent quality bag with a lot of features for a very good price.

Looks good but for the weight... For riding and camping you won't carry that weight... Beats several bags, like I have to have... light summer bag, a middle season, early winter and doth hell freeze over.. (all x 2, since my wife goes too.)

That price can't be beat either.

I used to have a very expensive down-filled mummy bag I bought years ago when I was into hunting and backpacking. Weight was a definite factor and it was extremely light - around 3 lbs. I figure on the bike, and especially with the trailer, weight isn't that big of a deal. I'd rather be comfortable.

Sounds like a great deal Scott. I have got to get me one for when I am out on the highway and need to stop for the night.

Cj, With that triler you can go 18th century like me with Hudson Bay blankets, but that would cost about 4 of them sleepin bags.

My wife's idea of roughing it is one-ply toilet paper. Mine is having to mix a Blanco tequila instead of sipping a good Anejo.
Best Western....here we come... ;)!

Man what a let down. When I saw the title of this one I thought we were gonna be chatting about some good ole ZZTop.

Just kidding. I don't know what brand it is but the one I got came from Sportsman's Warehouse and I think cost me about $60 and is rated to 20 degrees F.

Nothing better than waking up to the sun just peeking over the hill and the dew fresh on the grass restoking the coals from last nights fire and putting on a pot of campfire coffee.
I miss camping. Last time we went the other two couples had crappy gear and a nasty T-storm rolled through with tornados within 1 mile of us. Everyone else ended up in our storm shelter rated tent for the night as their's were shredded.
Wife says no more camping unless I buy her a camper.

Costco does get some really nice one-off stuff once in awhile, and like's been said, you better grab it while they have it.

Mr. Netnorske, sir, I also would not have pegged you for the motel type. Man, I miss camping up in WA. Absolutely beautiful scenery up there. I have albums of pictures from when Ann and I camped up on Orcas Island and out on the peninsula.

Guess we have about another 10 years of camping in us before a hotel will beckon. I see little point to camping in Texas. "Gee, I think I'll go sleep in the dirt somewhere.." No thanks....

Haha, like I said, we used to camp a lot when the kids were smaller. We'd go up to Strawberry Reservoir for the weekend, get a campsite near the water and we could tie the boat up just offshore.

If I were to camp while on the bike, it would just be for a place to sleep. I'd rather buy my meals in a cafe than to have to cook and clean up after the meal. My idea of roughing it, like most of you, is a motel without wireless internet.
