wheel clear coat

I have an 02 nomad. The clear coat they put on the wheels is almost gone. (Florida bike). I do have a little bit of the protective coat on the wheel little spots. Anyone know how to remove that coating so that I can polish up my wheels? thanks

I'd imagine paint thinner would work just fine.

I have stripped the clear coat on other car wheels by spraying Castrol Super Clean (full strength) on them. I never sprayed it on the Nomad because I didn't want to take a chance of removing it. You could also water sand it off with a fine grit (1500) and then polish it.

Sounds like you need the wheels off the bike the tires off the wheels and to use paint remover to bare metal. Don't get it on the rubber gweebo in the rear wheel and or in any bearings and seals.

Then paint new and clear as new. If you go polish, it will be real tediuos labor for sure, and then it will still need clear, or you will be a slave to the wheels, your choice though.
