..and Mobil 1 4T 10w-40 oil. Getting ready to do my first oil change. Looks like there is general agreement on the Pure One filter / Mobil 1 oil combination on Gadget's site and lot's of others. Anybody using this combo - and what's your experience?

Thanks!!

Been using Mobil 1 (20-50) with Purolator L14612 for a couple years. No complaints.

You won't go wrong with that combo, It will be fine.I use a Super Tech ST7317 filter from Wal Mart, because its cheap, and Rotella T oil, because I like how it lets the bike shift smoothly.

Watch your rear brake with that filter. The gritty coating on it wore into my rear brake line.

Just becareful with the Purolator PL-14610; the non-slip grip can abrade the rear brake line. Make sure the line is not laying on the filter body. Other than, that no problems.
For Oil:
Tried Valvoline, Royal Purple, Castrol, Delo and Rotella T oils; its a personal choice based on operating conditions where your at, but I have been pleased with the Rotella T (dino) 15w-40. The Shell Rotella T 5w-40 synthetic may be in my future, as I like the advances of synthetic lubricant.

It is the rating that is important. Some automotive oils are rated appropriately and will serve fine. Oil change intervals will be shorter with conventional oils than synthetics. Lots of research can be done on oils and oil preferences.

I am running the same Pure One filter and Rotella 5W-40 synthetic, I also put a small piece of split plastic wire loom over the rear brake line and zip tied it to that the filter does not come in contact with the brake line.

OK
This is more of a question than advice but since we are chatting about oils, filters and Synthetics let me ask this.
If I wanted to go from oil to Synthetic what should I do? ::)
Flush? If so should I use your basic engine flush that most about stores sell?
Should I wait until a certain mileage? Currently I am approaching 5000...on my 08.
Thanks

3,000 OCIs are acceptable. You may find that the ease of shifting changes as the oil undergoes use. I have had oil that would not shift smoothly after 2,200 miles.

As for switching to synthetic oil; many have changed the oil to synthetic on arrival at home after the purchase of new Nomad. I didn't do anything special when switching to synthetic and my bike was almost six years old when I switched. Oil is manufactured to lubricate and clean, so I don't think any flushing would be necessary. Others may have opinions.

I used Valvoline 4 stroke oil in my 98 Classic with great success.
I noticed no one mentioned Fram as a filter of choice, why? I put Valvoline in on my last change and feel a little roughness when shifting as opposed to smooth shifting on my 98. Think I'll try Rotella next time. I like being able to get oil and filter anywhere while on the road not having to try to find a MaKaw shop to purchase their products. Their filters are expensive and I don't care Kawi brand oil.

No flush needed. I switched from dino to Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-40 motorcycle oil at 3,000 miles. I've tried the Mobil 1 20w-50 motorcycle oil in the heat of summer but went back to the 10w-40 and will stay with it. I use the Super Tech ST7317 from Wal Mart. No problems experienced.

((I noticed no one mentioned Fram as a filter of choice, why?))

Fram is not the product it once was. The quality of the components have been reduced.
