Service in Iraq and Afghanistan

Fellow riders (and I include the ladies in that salutation),

While I have no wish to take anything away from the fine men and women who serve in our armed forces and the contribution they make to our safety and security, I would like to mention another group who is also serving the people of the U.S.A. and who seldom get recognized. I am referring to the men and women who staff our embassies and PRTs in those countries, the men and women of the Foreign Service of the Department of State. Far too often when any mention is made of the them in the newspapers, it is negative information. While they don't carry guns and go into battle, they do serve their country in carrying out the policies of the U.S. Government and they face many of the same dangers as soldiers and marines. Please think of them during this holiday season as well. Thank you. Ken (Foreign Service retired)

It is always great to recognize that service to this country does not always mean taking arms and putting on one of the service's uniform.
