Wide Open Custom Fairing
Considering a fairing from Wide Open Custom Fairings http://www.wideopencustom.com/dotnetnuke/
Does anyone here have this fairing and if so what is your overall assessment, fit, finish, stereo quality etc. They do not advertise one for the 1500 but the sales rep said that the one for the 1600 would easily install with 1/2 spacers on each side of the fairing mounts. Any 1500 owners try this out? Thanks for your input.

psychocycle I have one on my 2006 and I love it. I would not buy there stereo and speakers they suck bad super cheap. I would invest in a high powered deck and really good speakers. Second when I bought mine the speaker holes in the fairing are for a 5" speaker so before you have it painted I would file them out so a 5 1/4" spaker will fit as the 5" are very limited. Other than that I am very happy with the fairing. The shop that painted mine for me liked it so much he bought 4 of them for his bikes.

I've got this one, but my bike is a 1600. I've got several pics here.
http://gallery.me.com/john.moore3#100030 I agree with Spirello on the standard speakers and stereo, but I don't use it. They might have changed something in the design though, because the speakers that came with it were 5 1/4". The fit is good, on the 1600 at least, but the finish quality is up to your painter. As far as buffeting, it's better than with the stock windshield. It's gotten quite a bit colder here in the last week, and I really notice that my hands are better protected from the wind. I had the factory lowers on for a while, but the oversize ones I made from Idaho's pattern work better, just like with the stock windshield. I also ordered the 5" smoked and formed shield and I don't like it. It looks cool I guess, but the wind coming over it hits me right in the face. If anyone is interested in it, shoot me an offer. The 10" clear formed shield is fantastic though. |

I have that fairing, and installed a lighted power switch this weekend so I don't have to plug and unplug the power cable.

thursamaz I would say the wind block is much greater with the fairing than the stock windsheild. I also noticed it is alot more areodynamic than the stock sheild when I get a really strong headwind with the fairing as apposed to the stock sheild there is way less force against you. With the stock sheild in a headwind i would have to twist the throttle alot more to keep my speed up. master mac I also have a switch for my stereo I mounted mine on the left side cover. Can you post a pict of the switch you installed like where its at?

Sure - I'll need to get it out in the light to see it - because it is black against the black fairing. I'll work on getting that this evening. Sure makes it nice, just flip the switch to turn on the radio or just to add juice to the power plug when airing up my tires.

i was going to hook mine up that way but I like to listen to the stereo with the bike off and nothing else on. As for the paint mine cost me about $350.00 it seemed a little high but man that guy can paint. He does all the paintwork for all the local harley shops. Like they say you get what you pay for I was really pleased.

Here's my garage door opener (lighted) on the top of my left side cover:
![]() The power switch on the fairing, just to the right of the radio (lighted to see it): ![]() Power switch turned on, has a red LED light so I don't forget it's on: ![]() I was just having to plug and unplug the power cable (a quick connect type) and wanted a switch. This way, instead of using a relay, I don't have to power up the bike to listen to the radio or use the power plug (mounted just to the left of my radio). In fact, I listened to the radio and aired up my tire I changed yesterday without having to turn on the ignition.
