Shock pump

In case someone is looking for an air shock pump, I purchased this pump for $29.95 with free shipping from this vendor. The pump has a zero loss fitting on a flexible hose with a 0 -60 psi gauge. Works really well. Locally, the HD dealer wanted $39.99 + sales tax. The vendor answered my questions promptly and shipped my pump the following day. Very smooth transaction.

Got mine in. Found that my pressure on the rear shocks was around 25 psi. Book says they need to be around 43 psi.

Thanks for the info Mitch. I've looked for a pump in the past but they were always too expensive. This pump is priced well and is a very good quality pump.

Hi Trip.
I doubt anyone would need to ride with 40 psi in the rear shocks unless the rider and passenger were 250 lbs each or the bike was loaded to the gunnels. I leave mine at 30psi and adjust the preload up or down depending if its my son or the back or the wife.
If its just me its on #1.

I got one too but it slowly looses air from where it swivels till you get it off.

For what it's worth I alway's rode with 30# in the shocks and rebound at 3 with tire preasures at 39 Ft & 44 Rt.

A little stiffer ride, but much improved handling. ;)

No Doc, it's not a progressive. I forget the name on it but it is well constructed and much cheaper than Progressive. I noticed the same thing Fish, it will lose a couple of pounds if you don't unscrew the fitting pretty quickly. I like keeping mine at 30 psig so I pump them up to 33 or 34 before unscrewing the fitting. I have a Progressive equalizing kit on my shocks which keeps them at the same pressure.

Know what you mean, redjay.......book says normal psi should be 43.....but I realize that's for a full load.....the book also says not to go over 71 psi or seal damage may occur.

I have always used the preload along with the shock pressure. When I'm fully loaded, I use #3....unloaded, I switch it to #1. I'm going on the Talimena ride this coming weekend, so I decided to pump the shocks up to 43 (when I pull the plug off, I figure I'll loose down to about 40psi pressure) and try it out. I'm 235 lbs and I'll be carrying my laptop along with 80 lbs. of gear. I'll see how it feels...if it's too stiff, I'll adjust the psi. I'll be keeping the pump with me everywhere I go in the left side panel.

When I needed a shock pump I bought a Progressive. It does not leak when unscrewing the connector. You get what you pay for. Buy the best you can afford and only buy it once.
The Progressive as only 10 to 15 dollars more than this pump.
Not being a smart a$$, just giving my opinion. Yes, I know what they say about opinions. ;)

I agree with you, TC. The purpose of using these pumps over a standard bicycle tire pump is being able to precisely set the air pressure. If the thing leaks, then it's no better than a $5 bicycle pump. I paid a lot for my Progressive pump, but it doesn't leak, and to me that makes it worth it.

Well, I wouldn't consider this pump a bicycle pump. After getting one and using it, I would say it's just as good as a progressive pump. (I've used both). IMHO, any pump is going to leak a little when taking the nozzle off.

I'm not trying to justify or argue...just sayin' that it's a good pump.

I'm not trying to justify or argue either. But my Progressive pump does not leak when the nozzle is unscrewed.
Just trying to set the record straight.

I bought a cheap no name pump off ebay and it does not leak when taking it off. but the bleed valve did quit after using it a few times but still works to do what I need it to do.

If you guys feel that it's worth spending $15 - $20 more for 1 or 2 lbs of loss, go for it. I don't pump up my shocks to the maximum allowable pressure so the 1 or 2 lbs of loss are no big deal to me. Pumping them up to 33# and unscrewing the fitting leaves them at 30 or 31#. It's been a long time since I've seen a bicycle pump for $5. Maybe Big Lot's has used ones for that price but I'm not that cheap yet. ;)
