Nomad compliment

Last night while exercising our longbows in the back yard a young lady I had recently given a ride asked why my bike was so much smoother than a mutual friends. I had to smile as I said. "Because he rides a Harley." She laughed and I continued. "They make Harleys to look good first then ride well, while Nomads are made to ride well then look good."
I later thought about it and I think there may be an element of truth in it. I wanted a cruiser and to me that meant comfort and reliability. Everything I had read about the Nomad echoed that while the Harley write-ups seemed to lack that. And while I like the deep purr of the Nomad I prefer that it doesn't loosen the morter in the bricks of houses I pass like my friends Victory or that I can stop at a light and not feel like I put a quarter into the bed like my friends Harley.

I know what you mean PD. My wife and I pulled up alongside a HD recently and the first thing she noticed was how much it vibrated. She summed up her feelings in just 2 words... "No way". I now know to never shop for a Harley... not that I want to anyway. Quite happy with my Nomad.

Ive noticed the compliments are far a few between for Nomads.
And if you call all the times somebody says,, "Is that a harley" i dont consider that a compliment. So that makes maybe 10 or less in 4+ yrs. As i said few and far between. ;)

That's because you don't have the Red/Beige one Doc

Actually my Nomad does (as I am sure many of our members Nomads that come in all the colors) get a ton of compliments in parking lots, gas stations, at stoplights, etc.

It does make you feel good.

I also get a lot of "Is that a Harley?" comments. I just say no while thinking "it is better than a Harley".

I get compliments quite often

There is only one thing bad with having a nomad, once you've tasted the perfect bike, where do you go from here

Riding an 08, and I think this will be my last bike :( :(
this bike should be good for at least another 35-40 years

I agree its a damn fine bike. Probably my last bike too, considering I kept the last one for 28 years before getting my Nomad last fall.

I have gotten compliments on how it looks. A few months ago went on a ride and stopped for lunch, there were a bunch of Harleys parked in the lot.

When we came out and saddled up, they were standing around talking, but they all were all watching us too. It was evident as we drove by they had been waiting for us to come out, and while they didn't want to ask about the bike they sure stared.

Felt good.

At a local diner that we frequently go to I like to park in front and watch as the people walk past and look at our bikes. Some people will stop and look it over but the harley riders will look as they walk by but they don't dare to stop to look in fear some other harley riders might see them You can see them looking out the corner of their eye with a slight head turn.
My wife said to me you get a kick out of watching those harley rider don't you? absolutely

I always respond to that with "Harley wishes it was"

I've got an '08 red/black, too.

Every once in a while, I think maybe I'd like a V2K, but while I was out today, I thought "you know, this really is just about perfection. Not so much oomph that I'm tempted to get in trouble, but plenty for just cruising and enjoying myself."

Yep, just about perfection.

Had the bike about 18 mos. Never had a single compliment. In fact, only comment I've had was "Aww, too bad you couldn't afford a real bike like our Harley". It actually came from my cousin--female cousin.

Then again, I really don't care. If they don't like what I ride, F'em

If I lived in a state and never got a single compliment on my Nomad, I'd consider moving to a state with some classier folks.
