Flat Tyre
Left home yesterday for a ride and within a short distance noticed a strange sensation from the front end, stopped and found the front tyre partially flat. I had given the tyres a quick "kick" before leaving, the pressures checked the day before. Thinking I had picked up a nail or something, I took a look around the tread. What I found surprised me, the nut/locknut on the valve stem was loose and any movement of the stem caused air to escape from the rim. As home was only a very short distance, I returned, very, very slowly, as the steering was awkward to say the least. A re-tightening of the valve and pressures re-set, and I was on my way again. Anyone experienced a loose valve like this before?

Flat Tyre
I've found them to be loose (could turn with my fingers), but I never noticed a problem like yours.
I think I check my air often enough that hopefully I'd notice the nuts getting loose. Thanks, another thing to check.

Flat Tyre
Couple of weeks ago I found my front tire was almost flat. After airing it up, as I was putting on the cap realized air was escaping from the valve (stem core). I replaced the schrater valve and check it more often now. I always carry a tire patch kit and small portable electric air pump (I have a power plug installed on the bike).
