Kawi Lightbar Wiring
Happy Rainy Day Folks,
Can't ride today, maybe even the rest of this week, due to crappy weather, but hope someone can help me out here. I had the dealer install the Kawi lightbar on my '07 last year, but the way they installed the wiring has always bugged me. If you look really close, you may be able to see the wires on the left fork, just inside the left grip, just below the cupholder.... The wires from the lights wrap around the from outside to the inside of both forks, and then apparently into the headlight bucket. Looks like crap, and I believe they did it so as not to drill any new holes. They never asked me one way or the other, but I do appreciate no holes without permission. Someone please tell me there's a better, cleaner way of doing this, because looking at those wires drives me nuts. I would greatly appreciate your help....my sanity depends on you :'( Thanks in advance... Reg Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I did mine to run off a relay that's in the headlight bucket. I trigger the relay off the running lights, but you could trigger it off the low beam if that's the law in your state.

You should be able to disconnect the wires and run them into the bucket just by routing them better, try to bundle them with the wires that come off your handlebars. there is a fairly large hole in the back of the bucket. Sometimes I try a couple different routes to see which is the most invisible. I often spend more time trying to hide the wires than it takes to do the job. Thats probably why the dealer routed them like that, it was fast and easy.

I can't believe they charged you money for an amateur install job like that. It looks like something a kid would do.
Seeing that on my bike would bug me, too.

Other than the wiring, that's a great looking Nomad.

I installed the Kaw lightbar on my '08 myself in March. I ran the wire between the spots inside the lightbar so at least that wire is hidden, but I couldn't see any way of routing the wires to the headlight other than the way yours are routed around the upper fork.

Did some more checking on this when I got home last night, and found a couple of cutouts on the bottom of the chromed faceplate, behind the headlight bucket. They're just a couple inches from either fork.
Those cutouts appear to have been put there for some reason, and are large enough to accommodate the lightbar wires. I just need to pull everything apart, tag/mark the wires, and re-do the job. This process will result in about three inches of wire going from each light to the respective cutout, and disappearing behind the chrome faceplate then into the bucket. Anyone know if there is some reason why I shouldn't go this route? Those holes aren't being used for anything right now, and this seems like the way to go. |

That should work out fine for you, it doesn't really matter what holes you use as long as its hidden as well as possible. If use use some black plastic wire loom, it also helps make the job look a lot neater.
