messy mishap

??? i went for a short ride saturday,[ real short]. i got about two miles from the house when i heard something hit the bike.a bit
further down the highway i started smelling something burning
and then saw smoke.turns out that the after market oil filler plug
had vibrated loose and fell out.when i installed this little chrome
jewell i noticed that it did not come with a rubber o-ring gasket
like the stock piece had.after pulling to the side of the road i could see that my pant leg was soaked in oil and the bike from
the rear cylinder head back to the taillight was covered in oil.oh
what a mess,i spent several hours yesterday trying to get her
cleaned up.lesson learned [ the o-ring gasket is there to prevent
loosening from vibration ].

messy mishap

Yuck. I had a similar "mishap" once when I changed the oil in my C50T and as I was finishing up, I got distracted and started the engine without putting the oil filler cap back on. My beautiful black bike was coated with a fine mist of Rotella T synthetic. What a mess!

messy mishap

I can feel you pain. When i did the Caddmann on mine, I also pulled all of the smog hoses. Unfortunaly, I got the crankcase vent line hose very kinked. No problem the next day going to work. On the return trip home I took the freeway. Cruizing along at a nice 70 to 75 the hose came unpluged from the crankcase (front of the engine). It sprayed a fine mist of oil everywehre out the hole. Looked like smoke and I was afraid that I had blown the motor.

Got it unkinked and hooked back up and it's run fine since. Unnerving.

messy mishap

thanks guys, one thing that i should note is the fact that there
was oil on the rear tire which could have resulted in a problem
if one was in a tight turn.luckily it was just a bit of an inconvience
for me with no real damage .
