The latest news.They took her to surgery for a tracheotomy the first step to coming off the vent. Her nurse said that she is taking some baby steps forward. Today, for the first since her MVA, she opened both eyes, looked around the room, cried, and responded to verbal commands.She could squeeze with her right hand and moved both legs. They were also able to remove the ICP monitor. She is still highly sedated most of the time.

Great news today!! Elena is awake! And she is responding to all verbal commands. She can move all 4 limbs and her head. She's still in pain, and she still cries some, but WHAT AN AMAZING DAY!

Sounds familiar PT. I have a friend who was busted up to the max last year in auto accident. 70 yrs old who suffered a nearly completely severed aorta, crushed ankle, crushed pelvis, all ribs on right side broken completely off and floating, collapsed lung, and too many contusions to list. He was in CCU for over 2 months and underwent numerous surgeries to repair his ankle, pelvis, and a huge stent inserted into his aorta to repair it. The surgeon who repaired his aorta was baffled as to why he didn't bleed out before he was extricated from his company PU truck. Jim is alive and well today enjoying life with his wife, daughters, and grandkids. Nothing is impossible.

Made a trip to see Elena today not much to report see did open her eyes for me. Still working her off the vent through the trach doing breathing treatments for pneumonia. We are still very worried about her. There is some talk of moving her to Baylor medical rehab for brain injuries in the Dallas Texas area not sure of time frame.

Great news she off the vent now they have been sitting her up doing breathing treatments had to put in a feeding tube "for what reason i am not sure" there is still some right side weakness. Talk of sending her to Dallas TX for rehab in next few days.

Great news papa t. My buddy had a feeding tube for a couple of months because he had great difficulty in swallowing. Parts of his trachea were paralyzed. The swallowing therapy got him through it. He lost over 40 pounds when he was at his lightest.

Well I got to see Elena this afternoon it was NOT a good time she was in alot of pain she did hang on to my hand eyes closed and tears flowing not sure she even knew who was there. For a good note her kids were chosen to be blessed buy a secret Santa visit put together buy a radio station from another town they were nominated buy friends. They are still talking about moving her to Dallas TX Monday or Tusday Thanks for all your prayers I will update along the way.

Not much change to report except they pushed back the date to send her to Baylor rehab she is not well enough yet to do the amount of rehab required buy Baylor.

As of Monday the 20th Elena was off to Baylor rehab in Dallas TX she has made a large improvement and shown some of her personality we all love. The link above is the secret Santa delivery that was made last Saturday the 18th. The radio station said they usually get around 150 to 170 nominations total for different families they said there were 196 nominations for
Elena's family. Christmas is looking better
