Bike won't go...

Just keeps dying. Of course, that was before I tried for 5 minutes to pull out of the parking spot with the kickstand down. Been a long day and just wanted to share in case anyone else ever has that experience.

been there, done that. Most School Buses won't start when let in drive. I couldn't get mine started once. I called in on the radio and tried to sound important by naming all the stuff I had checked out. When the reply came back, I expected a well you did good we'll be right out to fix it. Instead I got a humbling did you take it out of drive, of course all the other drivers who were listening keep reminding me to take it out of drive to start fro awhile.

Bike won't go...

Mike,

I did the exact same thing in Colorado this August.
I just got the bike four days before we left for vacation, rode it home from Oklahoma to Nebraska, then left three days later for Colorado (trailered it). A few days into our vacation, I am in the parking garage at the condo, start it up like the few days before, put it in gear, and it would die as soon as I let out the clutch. I thought, "Oh, great! The altitude is messing up the bike!" Then, after three tries, I realized my stand was down. Boy, did I feel stupid . . . as well as relieved!

Doug

Bike won't go...

A veteran ISP trooper got a new patrol car one time here in Pocatello. First time out in it he could not get it to go into gear after he had made a traffic stop. Called for help because his new car would not go into gear. EVERYONE heard that he was having trouble. You guessed it, he did not remember to put his foot on the brake peddal to shift out of park. He took some needling for that one for a while. Just means you're human I guess.

Bike won't go...

Back in the day, at school, I lived with an electrical engineer. He found me frustrating myself over a stereo set up I had. After careful inspection he recited to me the 1st two rules of electrical engineering: (1) Plug it in; (2) Turn it on. ::) (*&%()%$^) sound of hand to forehead.

These have been rules to live by ever since. It's the little things dummy, it's the little things.

Bike won't go...

If we were all honest and started a "Stupid things I've done" thread, I have a feeling it would have more replies than any other.
Thanks for the post. We've all done something like that at one time or another. :)

Bike won't go...

Oh I can top that!

This spring getting the 06 out I had to back it down a steep ramp. I forgot to set the side stand UP, and after sliding backwards 8+ feet with the ft brake locked, I set the damn bike on the side stand with my toes under it!

Talk about feeling stupid...

Bike won't go...

Well, after trying several times, I started to walk it out of the parking space, thinking the slight incline might be doing something with the fuel supply. My wife, who was standing there says "you want me to help push it". I say, no, and about that time my foot hits the stand as I'm walking it out. lol

Of course, I felt like an idiot and said a few choice things. She says, well, I saw that and started to say something. lol

Thought if I posted it, it might save someone a few minutes somewhere down the road. I knew you couldn't move with the stand down, I just didn't realize I still had it down. ;)
