Anyone know London England?

Looking to travel to London in January to visit my daughter who will be working there on a 6 month stay. Never been there, wondering if anyone can give me help on where to stay. The city has so many different areas I could some direction. Budget is limited and London is expensive, the more I can save the more I can spend on chrome! ;)
Thanks..Joe

Anyone know London England?

My wife is from there and knows all about it. When we went, we stayed with a friend (free) and ate a lot at "Stock Pot" cheap and familiar comfort type food for an American. Probably poor college kid food for Brits.

My wife would be embarrassed to have me saying that we ate a stock pot, but I liked it :) My place not hers.

Give me some more specific questions and I'll ask her.

Anyone know London England?

Hi Joe,

As already been said London is very expensive, if i were you i would look to get somewhere outside the M25 which is the motorway that goes around London, sorry Freeway or intersates i think you guys call them lol

There are Travel lodges & Premier Inns everywhere, they are basic rooms but cheap and clean and normal close to the motorways.

What part of London is your daughter staying??

Ian

Look at the Travelodge uk site, they are offering some cheap rooms if you book quite a way in advance. Most of the motel/hotel chains will do the same. Will send PM with some details.
By the way, don't even think of buying chrome over here! But if you want to make some money, bring some over and put it on ebay uk! lol

Joe, there is a travelodge between Hyde park and Regents Park that is close to a tube station and a good part of town.

http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_a...p?hotel_id=312

At 90 pounds a night it seems like a bargain for London.

When she lived there, she lived near this one at one point. We walked the area when we were there and you could walk to Hyde park from there etc.

She said when she stayed in hotels when she went back to London for work, she was in 300 pounds per night places, and that was the price 10 years ago......Makes this place sound like a great price.

One more tip for you that sounds kind of touristy dorky, but worked for me. They have those touristy bus tours that loop all around the city with a guide telling you what's what as he goes......Dorky I know :)

We did that just because you pay one price and ride it all day and can get on and off whenever you want. She knew where to get off to see what, and we just kept hoping it all day to get where we wanted to go on the first day. Then we did the tube and buses the rest of the time.

Have a great time and let us know how it goes.

I've walked across the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. Does that count?

Anyone know London England?

Thanks everyone....
Looking at www.hotel.com I found a number of nice looking places for under $150 USD a night, just don't know if they are in the right area. I'm I correct to think that travel around the city is easy by the tube, so location near a tube station is important?

You are right there. Get a place near a tube and you are set. And "mind the gap" :)

1, 4, 5, and 8 are near the Travelodge one that I posted about further up, it's a good area. As I recall, the other side of Hyde park where the others are is also nice.

The Travellodge map shows the tube stations as round red circles with white in the center and a blue bar through it.
http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_a...p?hotel_id=312

There are tube sations right by the ones you mention.
