Exhaust Swaps

Working on my new to me 2019 Voyager. Ivans reflash was my first upgrade along with gps and phone mounts. Now looking at exhaust mods. Will early model slip on pipes fit the 2019 model now that the o2 sensor is not needed? I really like the Vance and Hines slip on mufflers but they are not listed as fitting the 2019 year model. I suspect this is due to the missing o2 sensor. I have found them as fitting 2009-2014 models...
thanks in advance

All slip-ons for any year '09 and up 1700 bagger will fit. Most will have a bung for the O2 sensor, which you can either blank off, or just leave the sensor in there (with the wire unplugged).

I was thinking that was the case, just wanted a second opinion before ordering a set of mufflers. Thanks for the quick response!

I seem to remember a forum member had a complaint about a brand of mufflers for the 1700's, the chrome rusting if I remember correctly. I am going to say it was Cobra mufflers but hopefully the person concerned will confirm.

Redjay you are right it is Cobra Exhausts that have the problem. The old style Cobra pipes were not subjected to this problem as much as the new ones that are presently out being sold. With that said I had the Freedom True Duals they were quality made were a piece of Jewel. I also owned a set of the old style Cobra exhausts they were not nearly the quality and the fit was not perfect like the Freedoms. To get the hangers to line up it was a two hour fight and this was also noted on this forum by many other members over the years.

What RedJay and Buckey1313 said: Cobra = thin chrome. It rusts and they will not warranty rust.

Exhaust Swap

Went with the Vance and Hines Slash cuts. Nice deep throaty sound but not overly loud. Combined with Ivans reflash, I like the way the bike runs and sounds now!

I found the answer to my question by reading about the slip one for my 2020 voyager,v&h doesn’t list the slip ones and cobra has no stock so,the v& h will be my choice, and once off why will get Ivan’s reflash.

Exhaust swap

Just got my Voyager 1700.
I've had the Ivan tune done already, but still a little under powered for such a big bike.
Looking at swapping the exhaust "BUT" a big BUT, I don't want it to be so loud that my wife and I have to scream at each other to talk. - yes I have the intercom system but don't like it.
Could some give me a few ideas. Getting too old for the loud a noxious exhaust like my old HardChrome Strippers

Hello and welcome to the forum. You might want to introduce yourself in the new member section.

The mufflers from the early models 2009-2011 have a nice sound. Not too loud but louder than the later ones.

If you read far back in this thread you will find many people complaining on Cobra pipes. The old style Cobra pipes with the bar between the exhaust at the rear was not as prone to rusting as the new style which does not have the bar. The finish on either is not a really high grade chrome finish I feel. They also out of the box is allot of complaints myself included that the mounting points do not line up properly you really have to work at installing these pipes. As for sound not bad at all about midpoint in comparison to the one I will tell you about below.

Freedom Performance True Duals are exactly that a true dual exhaust no cross over pipe at all compared to Cobra. The polish on these exhausts are like jewelry very high gloss and they seem more ridged of a side wall to them do not push in as easy as Cobra. Now let me warn you they are loud out of the box very loud double what Cobra's are but a much deeper sound and hope you can understand this a more pleasing rap to them when you pour on the throttle I found them very pleasing. Now you can purchase a quiet baffle for them from Freedom. Before if I were you if you decide to go this route I would give Freedom a call and make sure they have them and ask them how much quieter they are as I have never heard any of these pipes on a 1700 with them installed.

The installation is a snap with the Freedom exhausts about 1/2 and hour and you are ready to go. You can also purchase them I believe with different style tips and they have many different styles to choose from. The Freedoms also protrude further back past the bags than the Cobra Pipes do and I preferred this look also. The Cobra end of their pipes were cut off right under the bags.

I prefer the Freedoms for finish, fit, and sound what more can I say.

I have Freedom 2 into 1 with the quiet baffle in muffler and never used the stock baffle and will say it's not that quiet... I think the term quiet is relative to the stock baffle.

Comparing the two baffles the stock baffle (have an extra quiet) would be obnoxiously loud IMO as there really isn't much to it. I am actually thinking of wrapping the quiet baffle with stove rope or header wrap to tame it a bit more on WOT as it gets loud but not obnoxious IMO
