How do I disconnect wiring harness plug?
I just got a plug and play trailer wiring harness kit that plugs in between the wiring plug coming from the front of the bike and the wiring plug going to the tail lights and signals. I've been trying to disconnect the plug so I can insert the kit plug between the male and female of the bike. There are tabs holding the plugs together with no discernible way to depressing them so the plugs come apart. Anyone have a trick to do this?

Try using a very small flat blade screw driver.

What he said! Pry up on the lock, hold both side really tight and wiggle, sometimes they take a good deal of force....they don't want the plugs coming loose.

I pryed up the clip on the plug and held it up with a very small screwdriver but, It is cold right now and they do not like it, Warm it up some and like DL says be patient-Pull gently. And I dug another small screwdriver into the plastic to pry it a part. Mine was a bitch to get off but I did it in 70f weather. I can not imagine this weather unless your area is heated. If the cold is affecting it I would wait for some sun. I know it sucks. $.02

Some of these disconnect plugs defy logic and the tabs need to be pushed and not pulled.

Thanks for the responses guys. I got it done but it shouldn't be this hard. To Pilot747 who suggested I maybe shouldn't be doing it if I have to ask, I've connected and disconnected plenty of harness connectors. Most of them have tabs that merely have to be pressed to disconnect. These connectors look like they are intended to never come apart. I guess the advantage is these are never going to disconnect accidentally. Oddly the harness connector from the kit that plugs in to the connector going through the fender to the back of the bike had a smaller housing so it would not lock in like the one going to the front of the bike, so I threaded a zip tie in between the wires going in to and out of both connectors and snugged it down so it can't come apart. Before anyone asks am I sure it's the right plug, all the lights still work and I'm getting no error codes.
