Voyager antenna won't stay upright

Is there a way to tighten the angle adjustment. Mast stays attached, just moves rearward and down too easily.

Mine just seems to be a friction joint with no way of making it tighter. Has yours been moved up and down a lot?

Maybe you could remove the whole antenna assembly and lay it down and put some glue in the joint to make it hold in the upright mode. With it on a workbench you don't have to worry about getting any glue on the bike paint.

It's been adjusted/moved maybe 3 or 4 times in it's life of 74,000 miles. I need to use a longer mast to improve weather radio reception. I HATE THE WORD "IMPROVISE"!

That antenna holder is about $95 at Ron Ayers. Maybe you could find a used one at a motorcycle junk yard. Maybe you could wedge something in one of the joints to help bind it up so it stays up. A small ZipTie maybe?

Non cobble solution

There is a plastic plug on the outboard side of the antenna mount/holder. It is really hard plastic and I had to destroy it with a drill bit to remove. I doubt heating it would help in removal. Under the plug is a Torx head screw to tighten. AGAIN-I HATE THE WORD IMPROVISE!!!

Take antenna off, or make it really loose. Squirt, pour, trickle, blow, toss, hurl, dobb, whatever, some loctite into threads, bracket, reassemble tighten. Let sit 24 hours, loctite will harden into a plastic to hold things.

Other options, Gorilla Glue, Permatex, or some silicone. Black permatex will hold almost anything. If you get pissed, mix in some JBWeld into the assembly and install if you never want it to move or come off.

I’ve been looking at installing the Kuryakin in fairing antenna. Just totally getting rid of that whip flopping off the back end. If it works I’ll let you know and it’ll fix your problem on the back end. 👍🏽

All you said???? Yes I have a repair manual. Do you? Section 16, page 97 only tells you how to take the trim bezel off and remove antenna holder. Keep beating a dead horse.

Now we know what's under there and how to tighten it up if needed.

Waving Keep on the topic

Let’s all take a break and step back from the keyboard before this gets out of hand. Please continue to discuss the issue but not get personal.

So, what brand of oil do you run in the bike with the loose antenna?
