If it was me, I'd look for a machine shop who can drill & tap the hole, and fit a stainless heli-coil insert in there. Or you could simply get an oversize self-tapping oil plug from a parts store or from Ebay and do it yourself?

Anything more than that (such as having the hole alloy welded then tapped) may need the motor out, so is going to get quite expensive.

I like the heli-coil idea because those threads will then be steel, and much less likely to strip again.

They do make self tapping oil plugs, but the wise thing to do is lay the bike over on furniture pads, slather some grease on the plug(self tapping) and install. Chips will stick in the grease. Remove and clean....
I always use the side plug myself.....

At the risk of getting beat up; I have had two '02 Nomads, total of over 80,000 miles. Bought both used, neither had a washer. Have never put one on, no leaks ever.
