I had alot of success with the Metzeler 880s however, I beleive they discontinued them. They have been replaced bynthe 888 which is direct competition for the Commander 2s. I did alot of tire research these last 3 weeks.

I tried the Michelin Commander IIs on my 2014 Vaquero. Long story short, I had to change back to the bridgestone on the front because of the death wobble. I still have the commander II on the rear and I'm fairly pleased with it. I'm about to change it, but I've gotten 19000 miles on it.

At 28 psi, the first front tire I had, a Bridgestone, ran very hot and wore on the edges (all around) slightly faster than the middle. Sure signs of under inflation. 28 psi is just too low. Front and rear wore out at less than 6000 miles.
I have MC IIs now. I run 32 front and 36 rear. No wobble and they are wearing very well. I did replace the crappy stock stem bearing (and the front wheel bearings, too), changed the fork oil to a heavier oil, and added Gary's fork brace. So far, ~9000 miles, the last 1500 pulling a trailer, and they have lots of miles left on them. |

The Bridgestone is an excellent feeling tire. It is soft on the roa and grips great. But I hate getting 7 or 8 thousand miles out of the rear Bridgestone. A much longer lasting tire is more important to me than feel of ride and I have no problem sacrificing a little grip for a tire that lasts 15,000 miles longer.

I may look at something different for my next set. Something a little softer for better grip, but still much longer lasting than Bridgestones. My long distance riding days are about over, so I can deal with changing the tires a little more often. Then again, the MCIIs have been great for me so far...

Like the "recommended" Dunlops for the Honda Sabre VT1100s, 8000 miles max, but I got nearly 20000 out of Metzler 880s and never felt like I was losing any grip.

Same here, but I changed the rear @ 7,300 & front at 11,000. Been running the MC II @ 30 F / 40R. . Almost 11,000 on the front, wear is nice & even & looks like it should last the rest of this season.

I have Commander II's on my 14 Voyager with now 17,280 miles on the tires and they look almost new. I ride Solo, 2up and trailer., Hwy and around town. They just don't wear out.

Big for CommsII
27,000Kms on my Nomad front just before it was sold (38psi). Buyer happy with remaining tread. Less than 10K on rear but still looked like new (40psi). My previous rear CommII, I got 20,000km's. Never experienced the death wobble at all. Needless to say I will be putting on CommsII front and rear on the Vaq. Personally, I think the stated manual recommended psi is too low for the front. I go with recommended psi stated on sidewall and work my way down from there until I reach a "comfort" zone. 38 front, 40 rear works for me with CommsII so far. Cheers, Pete.

I have the Metzeler ME888 on the front and rear of the voyager and the rear has over 15,000 miles on it and still has good tread left, they are good in the rain.
I have the Kenda Kruz K673 on front and rear of the 900, I really like the feel of those. |
