I sit up too high and the 9" didn't deflect enough air for me. The 9" looks much better on the bike IMO.

I put some Cobra slip-ons on the Vaquero and thought they were too loud. I didn't bother trying to listen to the radio with the Cobras. I previously had a Nomad 1600 with Vance and Hines and loved the way it sounded. I've always liked loud pipes but now I'm thinking it's not as important as I get older. I'd like to have something between stock and the Vance and Hines.

De-baffle a set of stocks. Adds a bit of volume. You can usually find some stocks free for the shipping if you ask around.

Ride safe,
Smokier

I debaffled the stock pipes on a Nomad 1600 and wasn't happy with the quality of the sound. Comparing the debaffled stock pipes to V&H on the Nomad was no contest. The V&H definitely came out on top. I'm afraid to mess up my stock Vaquero pipes. Videos don't do exhaust justice so I'll have to meet with some other Vulcan 1700 owners to check out some different sounds and see what I like.

V&H were too loud for me on the 1600 Nomad. Replaced the packings with original materials. Tried stove rope too. Still too much for my ears at highway speeds.

H-D Street Glide new take-offs. I believe 08-13 parts. 50 bucks, a couple of bolts, and a couple short scraps of steel. Good performance. Nice sound. Gadgets page shows you how to do it.

What he said! SG takeoffs are the cats meow....nice tone, not too much, not too quiet.
Nice leisurely sat. afternoons project, leaves all day sun. for a shakedown cruise to enjoy it.

I take it this is done on a 1600 or 1500 not the Vaquero or Voyager
