Accessory power bullets.

Hello all. I'm gearing up for a 1200 mile round trip in a few weeks, and I'm struggling to find a phone charger that I'm happy with. Most everything I've found wires directly to the battery, and I've seen stories of that depleting the battery as the charger will draw power whether or not you have something actually plugged in to it.

So my question is, where can I find something that will plug into my accessory bullets, or failing something plug-and-play, what/how can I modify something to plug into the accessory bullets at the headlight or under the seat?

Just get a standard power outlet, one without a usb outlet on it. Then get a usb adapter if needed to plug into it.
It is the usb outlet that draws power all the time and drains the battery. A standard power outlet will not drain your battery, unless you have something plugged into it all the time.

I did as Troy described. No problems with the battery draining.

WRONG. I have a standard plug wired to head light power plug that drains the battery even with nothing plugged in. Not a big deal just remember to unplug it when not in use.

Well, I have a standard power outlet wired directly to my battery with a fused connection. Never had a problem with it draining my battery

Then you either don't have a standard outlet, or something is wired wrong.
I'm taking about a cigarette lighter type plug. It can't have any led light on it that shows it has power to it, or a usb outlet on it that pulls power.
I have two of them on my bike and it never drain battery, and I don't use a battery tender to keep it charge. It sets all winter and starts right up in the spring.
These are the ones I have.

Yep standard plug with a plastic cover on when not in use. Just how could it be wired wrong? Power from headlight run through a fuse and a ground wire. Only other thing on my bike that is straight wired is wolo horn. Unless that is draining it somehow, don't know what to tell you.

Well it shouldn't drain the battery. You could have a chaffed wire somewhere drawing a small amount. I would check it over. Or the outlet could be internally shorted, if it ok if you unhook it, then its got to be between where you disconnect and the outlet. If your unhooking the horn also a bad coil in it could also drain a battery.

Hey my bad. I was not paying close enough attention to what was being discussed. NO my plug does not pull any power when not being used. I was speaking of having my phone charger plugged into it but not with my phone plugged into it. That would be my phone charger draining my battery. Sorry.

Great discussion, thanks everyone!

Plumber, you have that simple outlet wired to your accessory power on the stock wiring harness? Or did you wire that to the battery with a fuse inline? If I'm reading the electrical diagram correctly, it seems the accessory fuse is wired after the ignition, so if the key is off/out then there's not power there, yes?

I wired mine directly off the battery with a inline fuse so its always on. I think the bullet connections under the seat are always hot, I thought the one in the headlight bucket is hot all the time also. I would have to look at the diagram(I would just test it with a volt meter), But mines a 1600.
