I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 5.7L Hemi, quad cab with 8 foot bed and matching camper shell I bought new in 2004, truck only has about 50K miles on it, we love it. On a recent trip to New Jersey, and with a loaded bed of furniture, and welders, we got 21 MPG on the hiway. Around town we get about 14 MPG. With the 8 foot bed, we have a 35 gallon gas tank, so can go many miles before fill ups.
I was looking at new trucks, and see that now Dodge has the Cummins Diesel available in the 1500 series (1/2 ton) First time I have seen that!

You'll enjoy many years of service out of this beast, Enjoy!

Why do you think they call these things pick up trucks?

I don't think the half ton is made with a crew cab and eight foot bed anymore. Seems they all have tiny beds now. I owned a couple trucks with the eight foot and one with a six and half, but rather have the longer bed. Can't imagine a sub six foot bed. It's like why bother.

The half ton diesel isn't a cummins. It's a Fiat 3.0L.

Yeah but not everybody buys a truck for the hauling capacity Jim.

I was considering another SUV (Highlander) but the truck has a

1. Roomier cab area
2. More room to store stuff...kind of like a gigantic trunk with my one piece lift up tonneau cover. Keeps it all nice & hidden too.
3. Nicer highway ride
4. More power (395hp) but still gets over 20 mpg on hwy.
5. Higher up - easier to see over traffic.
6. This truck has more equipment than the Highlander I was looking at but was actually a little cheaper.
7. Better visibility.
8. More towing capacity
9. And it is more fun to farkle

I would have actually preferred the shortest bed so the damn thing would fit in my garage :p
