Deal of the day
So I pouched one of my miter saws yesterday. Got a piece of hard wood jammed between the blade and the aluminum guard, bending the blade, cracking the guard, busting a piece out of the fence and damaging a gear.
So I go on the Internet looking for an exploded view of the saw to see if it is worth getting parts or toss it. My gut says toss it and buy something new after all this saw is 10 years old, I have used it for two major house renovations, built two large garages, quite a number of decks, as well as other jobs, so it's safe to say it's been around the block and owes me nothing. When I do a search and type the model and serial #'s in, I can't find a parts view but I do find a safety recall for it dating back to 2006 that has nothing to do with the damage I did to it. I call the 1-800 number and yup that model is in the recall and there is no time limit on the recall. As per their instructions I take it back to the Canadian tire chain of stores where I bought it. There of course is no bill so they offer a credit or refund on the lowest price that it was ever on sale for, no problem, I'll just go look at the new saws while they figure that out. Long story short when it was all figured out, I walk out of the store with a brand new $300 Dewalt saw a bit better quality than the Mastercraft brand I been beating on for 10 years with a total cost of $75.

You gotta love it when good things happen . As a contractor it does pay to do research on equipment. A lot of guys I know just throw it out and spend more money on stuff they didn't have to. I take it , fix it and use it or sell it for extra fun money.

Remember, measure twice - cut once, Norm.

I had a similar rule for dating Scott.
It was somthing twice and cut out of there fast, or something like that.
