Oil change

Just wondering about how much to put in, I just did a oil change on my 08 Nomad 1600 manual says 3.5 liters (3.7 qt) I haven't checked the sight glass yet but I've heard the manual isn't correct? Is this true? I tried searching the forum but could really find anything.

Drain oil and change oil filter, add 3.3 qts oil, run engine a few minutes , shut down and recheck after ten to fifteen minutes.

Depends.

2.9 L (3.1 US qt, when filter is not removed)
3.1 L (3.3 US qt, when filter is removed)
3.5 L (3.7 US qt, when engine is completely disassembled and dry)

I'm thinking 3.3 is about what you need if you swap the filter and drain the screen, too.

But start with the lower amount, run it, then let it settle, and check in the sight glass. It's easier to add a bit than drain a bit.

It's a shame they didn't make them to hold 4 qts with a new filter

So much simpler when you dont have to convert a universal measurement into 3qts & 8oz, (or is that 6 & 1/2 pint's), is'nt it.

Think of it this way, holding less than 4 qts you always have a bit on hand to top up the level between oil changes should your engine be using some, or after a few oil changes you have enough extra to only buy a quart or two for a subsequent oil change.
