new vaquero
g'day people I just bought myself a new 2013 vaquero (yep it's 2 years old but its new with no k's/miles on it. with a 2 year unlimited k warranty) there not big sellers down here but my questions are do all the fairings/dashboards have little rattles ? and what temperature do they usually run on ? mine sits on about half while riding but gets up around 3/4 when riding around town. and the rattle is starting to do my head in.

Temp's sound about right. As far as the rattles go you may have try to find exactly what is making the noise. Do you have anything in the fairing side pockets? Anything in there will rattle and drive you nuts. Mine also had some electrical connectors that were laying against the inside of the fairing and would make some weird noise. Hope this helps and welcome aboard!..........

Put your hand on the chrome ring around the ignition switch and see if it stops the rattling. A small rubber band under the chrome ring stopped the rattle on my Voyager.

I had a rattle in the fairing and finally found it. If you look down from top between tank and inner fairing on both sides you'll see a 1/2" dia black tube support coming from under the inner fairing which bolts to the frame. Mine had worked loose. They're a bitch to get to and tighten up but with a socket extension and some fiddlin' you can get to it. Put some blue loctite on the bolt and it's good now. Probably wasn't tightened properly during assembly.

Also while riding put your hand on the short windscreen and push forward a bit if that stops the rattle then go after what kpmhspirit said.

I had those rattles for awhile on my dash and now they are gone. I have around 9k on the bike and it is running smoother and with great power now. As far as the temp thing, it does run on the gauge right in the middle but at a stop light on a warm day it goes around 3/4 but it will not hurt the engine, this is normal. Once under way, it cools right back down again.

where'd you find a 2013 brand new? I'll bet the dealer was itching to get rid of it.

My bike had a rattle from the glove compartment doors. I bent the latches slightly to close them tighter and that fixed it.

Welcome aboard mate!
Temp is about right. Look for a thread or two from RacnRay on the fan over ride switch. The bike can go into a reduced power mode if the temp gets high enough. The fan over ride mod let's you avoid that issue. Rattles, yeah. The beauty ring around the ignition switch as mentioned. The various fairing brackets ,etc. as also previously mentioned. Find a nice section of road and the speed where the rattle is happening and start laying your hands on different things. Also, (not while riding ) check the 'vents' where the aux/fog lights would go. Ride safe, Smokier

Smokier, where did you mount your fan override switch. I looked at Rays bike the other day while at his shop and saw his LEDs but did not see where his switch was mounted. Pics would be awesome. I need to bite the bullet and do this mod before Daytona Beach in October. It is real stop and go traffic there.

Greetings Ken,
I used the black plug on the left side where the AUX light switch goes. *If* I ever go with that aux/fog kit, I will have to find a different location. Wires were easy, used the aux power and ground from within that pocket. Only had to run one wire along the frame back to the FAN circuit. That AUX is powered in the ON and ACC positions, and Off when ignition is OFF. So if I were to forget to turn it off... :) Ride Safe, Smokier
