17070r16 not a thread

just a ? for a friend His bike 1300 Yammy Tour deluxe came with 17070r16 rear tire . Seems to be few options on tires this size he found tire he likes but closest size is 18070r16 > thoughts or options ? what is difference in these sizes ?

There should be very little difference in the sizes. Not exactly sure, but I don't think that he would notice the difference.

The first # is your width, so 10 millimetres wider (170vs180) the second is your side wall height in % of the width so 7 millimetres taller ( 70% of 180 vs 70% of 170 ).
Should not be a big deal unless there is no clearance between the swing arm. It is common to put a 180 mc tire on the rear of the Nomad, so I imagine it is also common on a Yammie to get the brand of tire one wants.

To translate Norm's mm into US standard, the 180 is .394" wider, so that would be .197" (about 3/16")wider per side. The 170 diameter is 25.37", and the 180 is 25.92", so the 180 is .55" (about 1/2") taller, but will raise the rear up .275" (about 1/4"). hope this helps.

Depends on how much clearance the swingarm has on how much ,if any wider tire will work.
