They was dropping food and water to him from an airplane...maybe the same one he jumped out of ! ?
They had helicopters back then to get the guy down didn't they?

The only time I was at DT there were base-jumpers on the top jumping off. The park allows base-jumping with permits and etc. Helicopters take them to the top. I have one pic with two of them sitting on the edge looking down and around. I had to blow the picture up to see them.

I know a guy at work who has climbed Devil's Tower a few times. He says the top looks just like the surrounding area...prairie.

..Thanks glwilson :>) ...(helicopters were "experimental" in 1941, and I doubt that the choppers of the day could have operated at the elevations around NE Wyoming ?))

Did you read about the idiot that wanted to land his plane on it?

Look up pictures of the top of it. While it is fairly flat and has some grass on it; the surface is anything but smooth.

Too bad they didn't know much about base-jumping back then.

Oh yeah... one more thing. While the guy is stuck and freezing up there, he requests some bourbon be dropped to him for medicinal purposes. Even though the guy was an idiot, he at least had good taste.

Got back from the Black Hills yesterday. Had a great time and had quite the weather extremes on the trips out and back. On the way there it was 58 degrees and raining, on the way home it was 95 degrees and bright sunshine. With the trip to Mountain View and the trip to the Black Hills I rolled up over 4300 miles in the last two weeks. I am at work now resting up!
