Gear display

My display seems to be having fits. It goes up/down/up. As in shifting from 4th to 5th, it will show 5/4/5th.
I took it to the Dealer, he ordered the gear selector sensor, and installed it yesterday. Worked great for about 20 miles, then it all started again. Anyone know the cause, or the fix ? It is a 2012 Nomad?

Seems to be a common issue. A number of 1700 owners have had similar complaints.

common problem and even Kawi doesn't know what the solution is as they just keep replacing it with the same part number, mine is on the 2nd as well, and does the same thing.

It amazing that they can't get a simple thing like a gear indicator to work properly, lots of guys have had problems.

More like every 1700 has or will have this problem.

my '11 Vaquero doing same thing....glad (somewhat) is just not an issue with mine. Never had one before, so as long as it will light up in neutral and Kawi cant fix it right, I'll survive

I have become accustomed to mine doing this, eventually it selects the right number and all is good.

Mine is getting replaced. Problem is mine will go through all the way to 1st gear indicated in sixth gear which shuts off cruise. Dumb

Never heard of that particular issue before, but false readings are a known issue.

My 2012 Vaquero does the u/d/u thing going to anything above 2nd. Just not very worried about it, don't usually look at mt display while I'm shifting.

I like to think that whenever it settles on the correct number - I should give her a little pat and say "well done!". It's just another little quirk to get used to, and now Kaw gave us another dial to show what revs we're doing - the gear readout is a little TMI anyway isn't it?

The comparison between speed and revs gives a pretty good indication what gear we're in... And the gear indicator that can't make up it's mind isn't far different from all the other wrong information these bikes like to give us is it? - like distance to empty or fuel economy rate?
