Do not put it all back yet. remove the left side floor boards and remove the left side cover. The bevel gear case is not a transfer case really. See if you can use the drive shaft as a grip tool to turn the bevel gears and hear that clicking by hand..

It maybe be you have bad bevel gear bearings which i first thought it sounded like.

Also grab that spline end where the pin goes like you mean it and see if it wiggles. up/down side to side.

Do not re assemble what you have down yet!

Lets talk. let Ring talk and let other guys who have been there talk too. MT has been there i think.....

tear that left side down.

After seeing your latest video, I think its a good chance that its the bevel gear bearing. Your almost there taking it apart already, and you could see whats in there. When that bearing is left bad too long it can damage the housing a little inside. Its not all that hard to replace, I'm sure if you have gotten that far you will be able to manage the rest.

I know waiting sucks, but at this point you should have plenty to do, cleaning splines on the rear wheel, rear gear box drove shaft splines, the swing arm the 3 spacers that long bolt. Don't clean the upper shock bearings so much but grease them will molly. Make sure the side cover bolts are in order because i forgot to say to get a pizza box and draw the cover making a hole for each bolt to show where it came from. These bolts are different lengths and it matters.

Lube the shifter linage in the frame the side stand too and the what i call 'bell cranks' the ball and socket shifter linkage behind what you can see.

I haven't personally been where you are going. But Ring and MT have.

I want pics of the destruction too! yeah yeah I know 'How's it feel to want? '

Mac after talking with TM on the phone it sounds like it is the Drive shaft ball bearing that needs replacing. I like your idea of the pizza box that's great! I will take pics or video for you.

It has to be something like that. A bearing that failed will click, crunch and grind. I can't wait for you to ID 100%. Sometimes when i am working on some guys bike for hire a pizza and beer will just show up.

I am a mechanic for am living it's what i do. So I can't work for nothing But the IRS thinks i have a lot more than I need just the same.

I have read of bevel gear bearings going to lunch here. They can cause oil fires, dead shot circuits and assorted hell.

You were wise to stop riding..

If I recall some of the left side case bolts are with in 8mm's longer or shorter than others. A too short a bolt might go in and feel fine. A too long of a bolt won't. Don't force any.

Well it defiantly was the Drive shaft ball bearing, I got a new one and put it back together tonight went really good. I shimmed the swing arm, a good 1mm on each side. Greased everything and got the tire on. tomorrow all the bags etc and I'll be out for a test drive. Mac I have some good pics will post when I'm done.

That's great news. I can't wait to see the bad bearing. Now i want to know what the dealer gets per per hour. The dealer would have over 8 hours even if he was fair and knew what the job was before they went in.

It seems you are the thinking type, and have been careful, so I hope there are no errors.
