I would think you'd want to warm it up a bit before doing that. Not a lot of heat, but just enough without discoloring it. Cold working metal usually isn't a good idea, but may be someone else with more experience could expound.

I just cold worked it with a vise, anvil, hammer, and 24” pipe wrench. I didn’t have any heat which probably would have made it a lot easier. After I was done I just sanded down any jaw marks and repainted it flat black.
For those with chrome brackets I would think the chrome would crack but for those Vaquero owners….good to go.
