A fellow Nomad owner ....

that I met shortly the other day told me that if I really wanted to enjoy my 1600 to the fullest I should install a low restriction intake, power commander and a good set of pipes.

Who has done this, what parts do you recommend and where do I get the stuff??

Your 2 main choices of pipes are Cobra True Duals or Vance & Hines Dual Baggers... Check out YouTube for sound clips. The Dobeck TFI is a must. You can find it at several places for cheaper than any other brands. I paid $185 for mine a couple months ago. Air intakes are a different thing. There are many options out there... After market add ons, home made kits, and Chucksters intake. I'm trying to figure this part out as we speak. Tried to do a home made kit, but it's not quite working for me. I may end up going with Chuckster's set up.

With the 3 modifications, you should see about 10% increase in power and a cooler/better running engine.

Cobra also makes a good digital fuel processor. Actually they make two. Once you set yourself and it sells for around $200. The other is self adjusting and costs over $400. There have been some good reports on it. It adjusts according to riding conditions. If money were no object that is what I would have on mine.

I have the Thunder Air Kit, V&H with Ultimate Baffles, and a PCII.

Love it all.

I have a Chucksters intake, V&H Fuel Pak, V&H pipes with UBs. If I had it to do over again, I'd swap the Fuel Pak for a Dobeck as the Fuel Pak is difficult to adjust. Works well enough the way it is, though.

The stock air intake design is horrible on the 1500 and 1600 Vulcans. Opening up the air intake will makes a difference for sure!

Joe's kit is the BEST for the money. Just as good, if not better, than the big name brands out there.

Chucksters dual plate intake, Dobeck TFI and V&H Dual Baggers with Chucksters Ultimate Baffles. Very nice setup. You will be amazed it is the same bike.

I put on the Cobra True Duals with the billet caps and the Cobra PowrPro CVT fuel processor with a K&N air filter. Had the bike out over the weekend on I-70 and at 80 MPH they purred. It was great, but when you decide to really get into the throttle they will really let you know you no longer have stock pipes on. Really the best of both worlds. Now that I have performed the marble modification I REALLY like the new set up.
