Cam chain Extenders

Changed my oil yesterday using the screen plug and found some very small metal shavings with a piece of what looked like blue gasket material. I am not that confident in doing it my self, So im wondering if any minnesota riders can recommend a trustworthy shop to go to

Not sure what you are asking ? Did you finish the oil change ?
What you found in the screen is normal if it was the first time it was removed. You probably will not find much in there next time.

Seems like this was the first oil change if the screen had typical blue goo gasket sealer in it, and then it may well have some metal shavings as typical too.

Or do you have in excess of 30,000 miles on the engine and somehow tripped on the screen? If you have around 28,000 miles to 30,000 then you may need cam extenders. If you have a few thousand miles only there is no way you need to bother even checking the tensioners.

Its normal to find a few bits of gasket material and possibly a few metal shavings in the screen, Ive found that in my screen a couple times so far, Im over 80k and still running well.

It has 25,000 plus on it and it seeems noisy, and its the 2nd time changin oil using the screen plug. There are a few other things that i think need attention like the steering bearing and the brand new metz tire that is wearing like crap with just a 1,000 miles on it

I tried a few ME880's and found that they cupped easily, and made the bike wobble.
I switched to Dunlops and seem to like them better.

Send a message via Skype™ to rickyboy
the replacement parts are cheap through "Chuckster"....I think they were about $30. Unless you mean if you take it to a shop to be done. Then I have no idea.

Patrick. Whats the mileage on your 08? The extenders should not need to be replaced until you have 30,000+ miles.

The gasket material is not from the extenders. The shavings either more than likely.
Personally, I think you are doing the extenders too early if you have not checked them to see if they are out of play. The Vulcan engines are noisy by nature.

What does a Kaw Shop in Canada charge to perform this service?

Somewhere I read when Canadian Kaw Shops offer this service.

That is good to know. When due, I could tie a shop vist in to a run to the CO mts. May be on the way to the Nat. Rally in 2013.
