Miles per gallon

Millage varies so much with these bikes!! Anyone out there know of any mods that are aimed at increasing millage instead of performance?

Over the weekend I wanted to see what was the best mpg I could get. There is a 80 miles stretch of road near my house that only has one intersection and hardly any traffic.

I filled up the bike at one end of it and filled it up again at the other. Cruising between 55-65 (indicated) I was able to get 47mpg.

My bike has V&H pipes, intake, PC3, car tire.

For the cost of a dyno tune you can install a good air/fuel ratio monitor and adjust your fuel mixture in real world conditions the dyno just can't duplicate the wind moving over the bike and around the air cleaner then there's no guessing if the mixture is right you'll know at all times that it is.

Another factor to consider is rider/ passenger weight. I weigh about 240 and my passenger weighs about 130. Together we make for quite a load. And when the bags are loaded or when we pull the trailer, the Nomad has to move even more mass. I have a CT, V/H pipes and no other mods. The gas down here in Florida is about 10% ethanol and that will drop the fuel mileage also. My average mileage without a trailer is just slightly below 40 mpg. I am a conservative rider.

Very good point. I weight about 155lbs and my wife about 105lbs. Together we are smaller than some riding solo.

BTW, that 23.09 low MPG in 2009 was a stretch along I-15 in Utah, towing a 300 lb trailer in about a 35 MPH headwind while trying to maintain 75-80 MPH.

This will give you an idea of how it works
You can find many different gauges that will work with a wideband sensor you have to weld a bung to the exhaust pipe for the senor then wire it all up per the instructions.

Hey Superduty that was very interesting. I don't have an iphone but I have it's predecessor, a hand held calculator. It will give you the same results for less money per month. You just have to do a lot more button pushing. Only funning you.

The most I got on my Nomad was about 47 or 48 on 2000 plus mile round trip. It got somewhere around 44 to 45 depending on speed and wind.

Around town here locally I only get about 30 to 31. I took a 115 mile round trip today but haven't filled up yet so can't give you the MPGs yet. I am hoping it go close to 40 at least.

06 1600 nomad get 30 to 34 all stock just went on a trip did no better (no interstate) ohio52 to w.virg 2up think its starting to get worse just did oil.and plug , hoping cleaning air filter will help

Last trip to the North Central rally I totaled 1150 miles averaging 43 mpg. I was happy with that since we did quite a bit of back roads and was generally twisting the thtottle quite a bit.

With passenger - usually 38 to 42 mpg. -Cal

I'm getting between 42 and 46mpg no matter if its motorway or country road riding so I'm very happy with that. I ride fairly consistently around 55-60mph on country roads and rarely cross 90mph (except while passing a line of cars/trucks etc) on the motorways usually keeping her between 65-75mph!

You know the thought just struck me that I was getting near 50mpg in the US when I was there last August and I completely forgot that your gallon is only 3.79 litres while ours is 4.546 litres per gallon! I had the bike totally overhauled as you might remember and thought I was getting less mpg because of that but of course as the penny has (finally) dropped it's the difference in the size of the Gallon! My brain clutch must be slipping
