Walmart oil filters are made by Champion as well as other filters, Fram is one of the worse ones on the market, all you have to do is google fram and watch the negative come out. they also make a lot of oil filters under different brands. I believe there are only 4 or 5 at the the most ( oil filter makers ) so all brands will fall under one or the other. I stay completely away from fram !! had a personal experience with them.

Seems that I got a Bosch fliter at Wally World a few days ago, Yes, I am sure it was a Bosch. Cost around 6 bucks. Rotella T6 oil was around 24 bucks, so my oil change was only around 30 bucks and change. not to bad in todays world.

I prefer the filters with the 5/8" adapter so you can use a regular socket for removal.
Cant seem to find them anymore.

It was something to do with a piece of cardboard that Fram switched to inside the filters, it would start coming apart and plug the oil passage starving the motor. That was a few years ago though. I still try to avoid using them in any of my motors.

I currently use Hiflo Filtro for my Nomad and OEM Suzuki filter for my wife's Suzi. Apparently Hiflo is made by K&N or the same manufacturer makes both K&N and Hiflo filters.

If anyone wants to try HF303 is the part number.

When I worked for Wal-Mart we used the Fram filters and not the less expensive house brand. I never got a good answer as to why.

I've used the ST7317's for ages now on my track bikes and I'm using them on my new Vaquero also, never any issues whatsoever. When they were recently pulled from the shelves I managed to get their last stock of 7317's from the backroom before they were sent back... I've got quite a few tucked away.

With the SuperTech filters I always opened the box and made sure it was marked 'Product of USA', those are the Champion manufactured filters with the rubber to metal seal for the pressure relief valve. Too bad to see them go, they were a decent filter at a great price...

I couldn't find any with the rubber seal anymore. All plastic and made in Meheeco.

I'm using the HiFlo HF 303 also. I like it but then as long as it fits I wouldn't have any way of knowing the differance from one filter to the other.

Mail ordered mine from ebay, pack of three for $37.85 delivered. The HF303 fits 1600's 07 and later.

Question

Does anyone still have the oil filter cross reference chart that was on here at one time?

I had a bad experience with a fram, on a jeep. The housing seperated from the element while driving down the road. Lost all my oil onto the highway. After I got it towed home, the paper element and threaded top were still screwed on the motor. That was my last fram.

I have got lots of strange stores from WM employees over the years. My favorite was when I was looking for Motorcraft 10w-30 blended synthetic oil and I was told "we are not allowed to sell that oil anymore because we sell it too cheap". Or a close second was when looking for MMO and I was told "We have never carried that"; which evaporated shortly after we quit staring at the tag on the shelf for 1 gallon MMO. One of my co-workers worked at the local WM and was in charge of paying claims against the automotive lubrication department for damaged engines. She told me would never get an oil change there. These filters have seemed to come and go; the inventory is never constant locally. My '69' 1500cc beetle used about the same amount of oil and only had an oil screen and i drove it 210,000 miles with only a valve job and frequent oil changes.
