New Kawasaki Policy?

Saw this on Delphi. Can't think it's going to help sales per se. It sounds like they want people to shop local. Word to Kawasaki: The world has gotten smaller in the information age.

"Starting March 1, 2012 all Kawasaki dealers are required to removed sale
prices from their websites, cycle trader and all other forms of
advertising. We are only allowed to convey MSRP and not allowed to
indicate a price reduction except during personal communication. We, at
Village Motorsports are not changing our pricing policy. You can still
count on our dealership to have excellent prices, great selection and
service. We look forward to continuing to be your preferred Kawasaki
dealership. We are also asking you to forward this message along your
friends and family. "

Interesting. Sound like something a dealership would make up in order to generate more sales to their location.

at one time Harley was thinking about requiring you to buy from the harley dealer in you town or county do not think that went thru.

Could be. This is the original post. It could also be that some dealers are complaining about dealers that advertise through the internet and they cannot compete. If this is true, I wonder if it would affect Freemont from selling the cheap warranties? I think this is a step backwards.

HD did the same thing though. If they do list price, it's MSRP.

I don't know what to make of this. Is it legal? Doesn't sound good for the consumer. Maybe it will keep more dealers in business longer.

Desperate times mean desperate acts. This is similar to Harley telling its dealers to stop selling parts and accessories on the internet. A handful of large dealers were doing a robust online sales volume and other dealers cried to the MoCo because these big online dealers were undercutting them.

That's why Zanottis went under.

I think it's stupid. MaKaw sells a bike to a dealer for X amount of money. The dealer should be able to sell that same bike for whatever they want (even if they want to give it away). It was great marketing if you were big enough. Every once in a while, sell a few bikes at way below MSRP. That's the hook. Get a few people to come in then draw them to another bike (with more markup). Half the time they'll buy something else anyway.

You have to remember most "Business models" are being run by graduates of the "Evelyn woods speed manager qualified" courses. Thats why most companies are doing the same thing..... get used to it, its like Political Correctness, its just the way it is.

To me, that is anti-free market and not what's best for the customer. The problem is, the world is smaller and dealers that thought they had a niche in that people wouldn't go elsewhere are complaining because they cannot compete. Instead of revisiting their business model and making changes to compete, they complain to the mother wheel. It's protectionism that in the end hurts the people that are supposed to be served, meaning customers. It's stupid.

It surely brings to light how dealerships feel about open competition doesn't it??? I guess the moniker "stealership" will continue to flourish..
