To an extent I agree Bud. I do have a throttle lock and only use it if I need to free up my right hand for a moment or two but not to hold a long distant cruise.

I did however get to use a real throttle by wire cruise when riding Dave's Ultra and it is now on my must have's for my next bike. It's one of those things you don't realize you like until you use it...

I watched a TV series a few months ago with the Scottish funny man Billy Connolly doing Route 66 on a trike and at the end he came off and blamed his cruise control!

Here is what he said;

Quote:
August 25, 2011 15 hours ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Scottish comedian/actor Billy Connolly was left in agony after breaking a rib in a motorcycle accident.

The legendary funnyman rode a two-seater trike across America for a four-part British TV series, but filming had to be stopped for a week after the vehicle fell on him during an accident in Arizona.

He tells the Daily Record, "It was my fault. I was buying keyrings and badges for grandchildren and was weighed down... I had a thing for cruise control on the throttle, and it jammed on and I slipped the clutch and the trike came over on top of me and broke my rib."

Connolly is also now sporting a "rather glamorous purple patch which you can only see when I wear my kilt".

He's pretty tough for a 68 year old.)

I like the old coot but blaming the cruise control is a bit of bull$¥it IMHO!

The Vista Cruise Universal Cruise Control is simple yet elegant but could cause problems if the driver forgets its engaged such as running for an hour on the interstate and forgetting to release it at an exit. I also added the throttle assist wrist rest and find I rarely use my lock anymore. but the Vista Cruise works as advertised, isnt too expensive and is easy to install.

Same here, I use the throttle lock for short periods when I need a free right hand. I'm just a bit anal (no need to comment Brad) about a constant speed. Sure do miss the cruise control on the 09.

Guess I'm the odd man out. I use mine ALOT. If on the highway, I'll engage it. Still keep my hand on the throttle/grip, but it's just resting there. Periodically I'll make a throttle adjustment for the normal things like up hills, down hills, corners, etc. but I'll keep the vista cruise engaged and just use a bit more force to make the necessary adjustment. Mine will hold the throttle in such a way it just requires a bit more twist to make the small adjustments. About the only time I take my hand completely away from the throttle is if it goes to sleep on me. A quick shakeout and back at it.

Love the looks of the brakeaway, but can't justify the cost.

Idaho. I only used the throttle lock on my Nomad for short periods of time, just enough to give my hand a break and get the circulation going again. I use the cruise control on the Voyager for the same reason.

That is how I use it myself, to rest the throttle hand on long rides, but still be able to adjust throttle where required. I see the problem of your hand going numb as more of a safety issue than anything else.

Correctly installed and adjusted, when in the 'locked' postion the throttle should still be able to be turned.

And this little puppy (Go Cruise) actually works. Cheap and works well for increasing RPM's when making adjustments.

I'm too cheap to even use one them throttle locks, I use a short piece of rubber tubing, or an O ring. It does exactly the same job.

Like danimal, I also use the vista lock quite often on the open road!
I think its great!
Also nice for warming up bike on a cold morning.

One thing to remember when installing,
there is a tension adjustment nut, make sure you dont have this to tight. you want it just tight enuff to allow some movement in throttle.
