Extended Warrenty

Hey men. The new bike warrenty I purchased when I bought my 06 nomad is about to run out, and I thought, that was that. But, today I recevied a letter from kawasaki, wanting me to buy an extended warrenty. It amounts to close to 600 dollars, for two years. I'm thinking no, but wondered if a couple of you would have an opinion on this. Note, my bike has well over 80 thousand miles on it. thanks ronnie

That really surprises me that they would still offer a warranty on a 5 year old bike.

I have never had a bike with a warranty and I am not exactly sure what they would cover, but for me, it would really come down to what has already be replaced and what is covered. With 80K miles on the bike you are sure to start have failures. Not necessarily because of a faulty part, but because of a warn out part.

Yup. With 80k miles, I'd go for the $600, 2 year warranty as long as it covered everything. (Kind of like a bumper to bumper warranty on a cage.) If it included very little (or like Jared said, you've replaced a ton of parts already), I'd pass.

Does the warrenty cover defects?
Does it cover anything that has worn out with normal wear and tear?
If it only covers defects, I would look for something else.
The defects should have reared their ugly head already. JMO

either way check e-bay for a better deal. I'm deciding if I want to extend mine with 31,000 on it because It looks like I'll be keeping it for a long time.

I wouldn't buy it if it was me, although a couple here have had some major repairs covered. I think anything that would have gone wrong would have happenedby now. Some parts such as clutches are considered wear item and usually are not covered.

My 2008 had been extended when I bought it in 2010 to 2014. Same coverage, just longer.

GET IT, GET IT, GET IT!!!!!!!!!!
Check with several dealers, even ones out of your area as one may have a better price. I've extended mine twice through the dealer I bought the bike at, Sammy Whites Kawasaki City in Irving, TX. I've had multiple things go bad and it's covered them all, except the clutch upgrade, including the water pump problems, main wiring harness, radiator and both rear shocks which were almost $500 each if I had to buy them.
So for me, it's been worth every penny.

When did you buy the bike? Normally, that bike came with a 2 year warranty. The longest you could buy is 4 years additional, for a total of 6 years. Are you saying they want to sell an additional 2 years on top of that? If it's to extend the warranty past the initial 2 years, buy the 4 year extension from Freemont motorsports in Colorado. It will be around $360.

Your correct. Bought it in 06 with a 2 year factory warrenty, and bought an additional 4 years at the same time. Total of 6 years. It's been almost 6 years now and the warrenty is about up. That's why they want me to buy another 2 years warrenty. ronnie

Thats amazing that they are offering that extension on a six year old bike. So far you have been fortunate enough to have nothing major go wrong yet, but as the miles rack up and the bike gets older youll probably have something go oneday.

I've never heard that. Usually when the extended is up, it's up.
