Broken legs suc. Glad that you are going to heal up and that the bike is mostly okay. Get back in the saddle as soon as you can.

I'm definitely glad to hear you're well enough to tell the story. It's amazing how fast life can change.

Thank You all for the well wishes.

I have retained an attorney. I am interested to see how this all works out in the end. As far as I know the PD hasn't finalized the report. The person who stopped and allowed the oncoming van to cross in front of us did stop and was quite helpful. I found out later, from the officer, that this person who was so helpful was the one who basically initiated the actions that caused the actions.

The person who made the left turn in front of traffic did stop as she was going to work and she was turning into the parking lot of her workplace.

The police did get everyone's info. I don't know what the report says. I get the impression, from the officer, that no one will be charged. That's OK as there are basic rules of the road that apply and those folks can be held civilly liable.

I am not a sue happy person and not looking to get rich off of this incident. In fact, several people had to beat it into me to get the attorney as the medical bills are going to mount and will get quite expensive. That's all I care about, I don't want to be any worse off, financially, as I was before the accident. I'd like to see the medical bills taken care of and I'd like to be compensated for the 10 or so hours of overtime and night differential I'm losing each week I'm laid up.

This is going to be an interesting experience. The bike is basically fine as far as I know. I haven't looked at it yet. I will see it Tuesday when the insurance guy comes out for a look. I had some friends pick it up for me that night of the accident. They straightened the front brake, mirror, throttle assembly and rode it 10 miles back to the house. They think the bars are bent or, at least, need to be re-tweaked. We'll see. It's going to be the spring (maybe late winter) before I do anything with it.

Again, Thanks Everyone for all the well wishes.!

Russ

Hope the recovery goes faster than expected. Like some of the others I would be interested in hearing how you came out with the others involved.

I eye witnessed the exact same scenario but no MC was involved. But a car with a small child really got smashed.

I learned to never wave anyone through. It is usually a nice and well intended gesture but not a smart one.

Were you in a no fault state?

That is simply crazy talk. ;)

It does sound pretty cut and dried that the oncoming driver failed to yield your right of way, but I don't even play a lawyer on TV.

Heal up quickly. Yes, they are all out to get us. My next bike will have ABS brakes.

But you did stay at a Holiday Inn Express?

LOL, Thanks for the support. The attorney says it looks like a good case. It would be or they wouldn't take it.

The doc says the leg is healing very well and might be a little ahead of schedule. I'm to do more flexibility exercises and not wear the immobilizer as much - only when I go outside. Keeping the leg immobile will lead to an immobile leg. Makes sense to me. Plus that thing is uncomfortable.

I have had some pretty scary thoughts though. Must be the pain meds. I was playing with the idea that I got a big settlement so....I went to the H-D site and started building my own bike. Oops. I came up with two. A Road King w/ $6000 worth of goodies and an Ultra.

Must have been the pain meds making me not think straight. Everyone knows you get the biggest bang for your buck and a great ride with the Nomad.

Russ

Russ, you are very lucky. This sounds like another case of D.W.H.U.A. on the part of the car driver.

Drive With Head Up A$$.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.
