Shipping another one off tomorrow

Well, the airlines strike again. My son's connector from Phoenix to Denver was delayed 25 minutes and his connector from Denver to Minot took off without him. Now he has to stay in Denver tonight for a noon flight tomorrow. I can't believe they closed the door on the flight as he was walking off the other flight. WTF is that?

Probably when they saw the size of him, they all screamed "NO WAY"!
I think they were afraid they wouldn't get off the ground....;)

Ron, I was on the campus of Minot State yesterday for an athletic director meeting. The campus survived the flood and looks in great shape. I hope your son will like it there.

He is having a tough time adjusting to being away from home. I have been on the phone with him a few times. He is at practice now and I'm hoping he will get through this initial state.

He got an academic scholarship to attend. He is a preferred walk-on, one of four they brought in.

One thing about kids Coach, you feed them, give them water and they grow up and go away to college. Another page turns and the emotions you have as a parent are good, nothing like a tight family. I've always looked at it as another destination for a road trip.

Best from Terri and I to you and Tammy during this separation, when they return it makes the holidays all the more special. ;)

He is doing better today. Said practice went well and is going to go out and see a little of the area.

Just wait until school begins and he starts seeing all those college girls walking around. Real quick he's not going to be missing home (until one breaks his heart). But he'll get over that real quick too.

All part of growing up and leaving the nest. I think the hardest part is for the parents.

Not hard for me except the texts and phone calls. He was much better yesterday and today when we had contact. Preseason camp is a tough deal for everyone. There is another lineman from FL there so they are hanging out together.

Logistically this one was easy for me to take, less groceries, less cooking, less laundry, you get the idea but emotionally it has been a lot harder. Very difficult to tell your son who wants to come home that he can't and that if he just waits til the other students get there and he gets into a routine that he will be ok when all he can think about is home. Told him when we went to college we didn't have cell phones, face book, web cams, e-mail to communicate. We called home once a week and waited for a letter in our mail box like it was the Publisher Clearing House Sweepstakes. I know he will be ok, but that doesn't make it any easier. The older 2 were not like this at all.

Thanks Goose. He is adjusting better and better every day. He is now talking about changing majors because he would have to miss spring football if he stays in Spanish. I guess all the prayers and encouragement of people back home have helped immensely.

I'm flying out to visit him over Labor Day weekend.
