backrest for 2008 vulcan nomad
I have the Utopia on mine. My daughter rides with me most of the time and she likes the way it folds down out of the way when she gets on and off.
Drivers backrest was the best mod I have done to my Nomad. |

I have the Utopia and it can bee adjusted in enough ways to make a "Hunchback" comfortable. I like being able to set the amount of lean with the quick turn of a screw, even when riding. Great Backrest....

One other alternative is to buy an aftermarket seat with an integrated backrest. Usually they are easily removed and adjustable up/down as well as fore/aft.

For the money, go Grasshopper. Utopia requires a cut in the passanger seat, but is a good choice. I run the Bakup brand. Like the Utopia, it folds down for the passanger to mount/dismount, adjust for/aft, up and down. It does not require a cut in the seat as the support post comes up between the drivers and passanger seats. It has a springy kind of give, so you don't feel you're sitting on a park bench or smething. Grasshopper..about 100.00 Utopia about 200.00 abd the Backup around 325.00. Flip a coin and go with what you feel most suited to you. Aftermarket seats are much more expensive..like Mustang around 650.00. If you haave hard seat issues, thats an idea to look into. Your wife needs to learn to hold the grab handles that MawKaw has provided. ;)

I have the Utopia and love it. Very adjustable and mine also has a pocket in the back for small items. My daughter uses it as a drink holder and when I travel it works great to carry a self defense item in. I have had it for 5 years and have never had any problems or complaints.

I'm also looking.... Is the grasshopper adjustable at all? Doesn't look like it from their pics. Just wondering if anyone has had it NOT work out for them due to non-adjustability?

Hmmm, maybe I should change my name from Jmax5105 to 'ThreadKiller'.... ok, so I looked further and it doesn't look like Grasshopper backrests are adjustable, but I'd still like to know if anyone has NOT liked their grasshopper backrests.

Everyone who has or had a Grasshopper seems to love it. Like I said for the money, it's the least pricy, but I do not think it is adjustable. It quickly removes to allow a passanger to mount or dismount tho. The Bakup folds down and I think the Utopia does too. Those are both fully adjustable. The Utopia requires a cut in the Pillion, the Backup does not. Utopia has the pouch, Backup does not. Gues you have to kinda look at them side by side and decide whats right for you. Personally I love my Bakup. If grasshopper had been available when I got mine, I'd probaly have gone with it. If you know another member who has one sit on his bike before you decide if possible. Hope this helps t confuse you better...opps I mean help you decide.. Hehe. Good luck.
