Another darkside question

I have read all I can find, and still not found a definitive answer; I have a 2003 1500 Nomad. Mine has the 3.5" rim width, I believe.
Is there a car tire that fits that rim without "squeezing the sidewalls" a bunch? I feel like it's not safe to run a CT that is spec'd for a 5.5" rim on a 3.5" rim.
So; any of you with a 1500 Nomad running a CT? your thoughts on it?

I am sure the Dunlop Sp 5000 195/60 R 16 fits and any other brand in that size will fit, but that is as large as you can go on a 1500 with out any grinding what so ever.

There are atleast 2 guys here with that tire on that wheel, but I forgoet off hand who they are.

I run that tire in a slightly wider wheel as the 1600's are slightly wider. I have around 12,000 miles on it and 6/32nds left on the tread. New the tire was 10/32nds.

I can't see wear being much different for rim wheel width... I don't expect to need a new rear this year either. Not mid season anyway.

You plan to do a swing arm service whole thing with the tire change right?

There was a european mfg, Vredstein (am probably spelling wrong) that offered a 175/70/16. That would be the same diameter as your stock tire and only about a 1/2 inch wider than stock. Dkdixie had one on his 1600 and mesurement wise it would be a good choice for a 1500. You might contact Dkdixie (Dick Campbell) about it.

The 175/70-16 requires a small amount of grinding on the swingarm in the inside corners. On a 1500 that is.

The 195/60 or 195/65/16 will fit with NO mods.

I ran a 175/60/16 for 12000 miles a 195/60/16 for about 18000 and a 185/75/16 for about 5000 miles. The 185/75 required significant grinding on the swingarm.

My bike is a 2003 1500 Nomad.

I installed the Vredestein Comtrac 175/70/16 and didn't require any grinding on the swingarm.
It went on and cleared everything underneath the bike.

Well, my tire comes in today- Woo Hoo!
Wonder if I'll find anyone willing to mount and balance it. Anyone here using dyna beads in their Car Tire?
BTW; I went with the Dunlop Sp5000 195/60-16 - it was the most widely recommended.

The SP 5000 has probably a white dot and a red dot, and I have no idea what these mean. It will also have a either yellow or lime green dot with a ring in the same color around the dot. Align that target like dot with the valve stem first thing.

One way or another mount the axel thru the wheel and suspend it so the wheel can spin. If you have jack stands clamp the axel down with rags and wooden blocks, or use cement blocks. Spin the tire and let it coast to a dead stop. Mark mid night, repeat this step no less than 10 times.

If no pattern develops you need no weights and no beads. If a pattern does develop, send 2 oz of beads down the valve stem.

And yes i run the beads in the same tire. On new pavement it's a little scarey, since i don't feel the like the bike is touching earth or pavement. It's that smooth.

Of course in NH the normal roads are like bombed out WW-2 roads most of the time.

Well; the Darkside has claimed me!! lol!
Took my first ride last night, feels weird going into corners, but, smooth as a baby's butt going down the road. I clamped my axle in the bench vise, slid the wheel assembly on and started the nut a couple threads. Spun it 7 different times and it stopped at a different point each time, so I didn't get any Dyna Beads for it. Lined up the red dot on tire with valve stem and it seems just right.
I have 40psi in it now; guess I'll run 100 miles or so, then drop it down some- looking for the sweet spot.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
PS; I removed my old one and installed the C/T in my basement with only hand tools- bought some 36" "zip ties" from Home Depot and spread 10 of them around the tire, squeezed it till the sidewalls were touching, then put it onto the rim. Sidewalls are really stiff on these, but, I got it on, with a minimum of rim scuffing.
