Take care!
Stobe, I couldn't agree more. I broke my ankle last August and althought he bone healed I still have problems with the ligament damage reparing. I got to thearapy right away and have been in the gym since I got the cast off in late October. It takes patience and determination to get back the mobility and then there is the confidence you need to regain as well.

Steve, I can see it now you roaring through the Dragon on the bike in the pickup

What happened? Were you on the ST? Looked like a KGT in the one of the photos...
Nothing so dramatic for me, fell on the ice this winter and landed with all my weight with my ankle under me, apparently I could not have done much more damage if I tried according to my surgeon...Not near as good a story as if I was on the bike.

That is a '09 K1300GT in the one pic that my riding buddy has. Great bike, I would have been tempted to get one too if it was not a 180 mile ride to a dealer for service / warranty work.

Unless you live in the east half of the US, finding a BMW dealer close to home may be a challenge. I don't know what it's like in Canada, except I bet it's worse. When I lived in NY, there were 4 dealers within 50 miles or less of where I lived. In Iowa, I have one 22 miles from my house where I bought my bike, after that it's 125 miles to Iowa City and 135 miles to Omaha, take your pick. That said, I plan on doing most everything myself. It's too expensive to go to the dealer. $300 for the first service cured me. I am sure the 6K mile service is even more.

BMW discontinued the K1300GT and the K1200LT. Now they have the K1600GT and GTL. Nice, but expensive. I may take a good look at the new R1200RT coming out next year. It's going to be water cooled, lighter and have another 15 HP and 5 ft/lbs of torque. The big deal is the wet multiplate clutch.

Beemer dealers are probably easier to find than a Kawi shop here. There is a dealer right here in Newmarket. In Canada Beemers are sold through the car dealers. They either sell cars and bikes, or cars and minis here, but not all three.

I would have done a lot of it myself as well, but that particular 1300 has been in for at least 5-6 recalls in the last couple years. Great bike, but to get those done was a pain for him and he lives in the same city as the dealer, for me it would have been too inconvenient. That 1600 looks like a great bike, I have been very tempted I must say, but like you said, a bit pricey.

Mine had two recalls that were taken care of at the first service. One was for the latches on the panniers and the other was for brake lines. Other than that, it's been fine. I got it mid-november and I have 2300 miles on it. It seems to run better the more mileage I put on it. My Nomad wasn't like that.

But how many John Deer dealers are near you?

Ponch,

My Nomad seems to get better with time/miles. Is it a fluke??? Nope, its a Kawasaki. . . ;-)

I probably have at least an equal amount here as we do Kawi dealers, if not more.

The dealer I bought it from sells John Deere too.

Yes it is, at least from my experience. What I am talking about is how well the engine runs. My Nomad's engine didn't change much past the first 800-1000 miles if at all. I will say that between 12-14K it seemed to get smoother, like it settled in, but more power, no. The Kawasaki seemed to break in quicker, although I haven't used much oil in the BMW and after the first oil change on the Nomad, none really.

Not true, Mini Durham and BMW are in the same building. They sell both cars and bikes and Mini's. The Mini is on the one side of the building but they share parts and service department. Not sure of BUDD's or in Vaughn. Also I think the one in Ottawa does sell all 3 as well.

PT is tough but in the long run you only get out of it what you put into it. I have 17 or so screws in my leg, therapy really helped
Glad to hear its going good so far. Keep the legs raised, all three of them, that's the best therapy!
