12v Power Outlets- Any Suggestions?

Hey, thanks for all the great info, the photos *really* help too. I'm glad I asked because it hadn't occurred to me about the covers when not in use. I suppose I'll have to wait until I get my bike to figure out just which spot works best for me. At least now I've got an idea.

As far as water proofing, I hadn't thought about that. Are there any issues with using the outlets while it's raining?

What do you guys do about keeping your GPS or phones/mp3 players etc. dry, but useable while riding in the rain? I never really consider wether or not my GPS could handle it. Since it's made for use with a car, I don't know if it'd be up to the task.

Do they make some sort of all purpose, see-through water-tight pouch that can be used in a pinch? I've seen stuff like that for cameras before, but never looked into it for a bike. ...Or do I have to suck it up and buy some sort of all-weather GPS? ...That sounds expensive. ::)

Here's an option. It may be more than you are looking to pay.

Just keep some zip lock bags handy and you can slide one over the unit and zip it on to keep the unit dry. The shield will do a really good job of protecting a outlet mounted directly behind it by blocking the rain from getting to it. My GPS resides in a ram mount when on the bike.

I also use the Wally World Marine type.
But I tie wrap it to my handle bars between the risers.
I like to remove my windshield for clean up.

Printz,

You know what, never thought of that when I mounted them on my windshield. Even though I don't remove my shield very often, I might need to think about moving them, or putting in a disconnect.

Mine is a Wally world wired into accessory plug in headlight bucket. Stuff it inside fork covers when not in use and plastic tie to handle bars when needed.
