The resister in question is on the grey wire on the ignition, on the factory switch it is soldered to the switch itself and the grey wire comes off back end of the solder point. I've told them all the suggestions yall have told me and I'm almost willing to cut my loses with them and give it a whirl myself. I rewired a HD Sportster, this is just a little more involved than that old sportie.

Heck, you might just have to give it a try. Be sure and let us know what happens.

You've got to know that no dealer is going to admit to finding some simple little thing wrong, that could have been fixed in a few minutes, when they are making a ton of money fiddling around 'looking' for a problem.

truer words were never spoken. As a volvo tech new to a certain dealer, now gone; me being more experienced over all, and more than familar with 164 volvos since the dealer was newer than, but me being new there, not yet trusted, I was last to get the car after it went from tech to tech to tech, till me, as 7th.

Days of time were used, and when i got it, i figured everyone else had to have tested everything there was to test.

I reached under the gas tank and rapped it with a fist and it kinda boomed back as empty. I added 5 gallons of gas and drove the car out of my bay. Instantly i was set on by the fool of a shop manager as to what the problem was. i shrugged and stated 'out of gas man!" He told me to never repeat those words.. ::)

I knew the line of BS forth coming to the rest of the crew and the car's owner very well by then. A hell of a lot of techs and or shop managers don't know squat.

These days no young techs know a thing about a lot... They don't know carbs or points type ignitions, and can't diagnoise squat with out a dyno, or OBD II tester to tell them and still they must guess.

Glad they finally discovered what your problem was. Was it covered under warranty or our of your pocket?

Unbelievable!!! Glad you got it going again. The simplest things.......

Can you post a shot of the headlight wiring and where the problem was?

The day I was going to go get it and fix it myself, they called and said it was ready. I ended up just paying for 2 1/2 hours labor and that was it. Wished I had picks of it, but to be honest, I'm afraid to open it up. Hopefully I'll see some of yall out on the road.

Once again I am glad they were able to get it going again for you. They could have charged you more hours so guess you lucked out there. What is their rate per hour?
