Darkside questions

sid and dk and all; I don't eperience tread wear or cupping issues with the stones that most report. have 20,000 on orig front on bike and will replace after brp ride. got 13,000 with no cups on orig rear stone and replacement has 7,000 will last to switch out when i do front. actually think stones are good tires.
I want rear ct for improved ride as wife still wants me to go back to goldwing. also want improved ground clearance. the 60 and 55 series won't add to clearance and shorter side wall means a little less cushion also so prefer to not go that route although truck tire vs car tire makes me wonder.
The gear ratio / speed effect is small but there is an effect. My stock speedo is fast about 7-8% so when you show 75 you are doing 70 and with a 195/60 i calc error will increase by 2% to 9-10% so when you show 75 you are doing 68. If you go with 195/65 i calc error will dcrease from +7-8% to +3-4% so then 75 will really be 72-73. side bennie is odometer will understate mileage on bike by 4%. So lots of thinkin still being done by me. look forward to our talks on brp ride.

bigsid1, Not quite as the books conversion chart says the SP 5000 in 195/60 R 16 is the same as stock height. So it is the same as the stock tire. No more no less rpms..

I installed one and layed a screw driver over the top and the Sp 5000 seemed taller than stock. But not much...

Any more and it would have been my tomestone likely.... it was dead officailly at 7,000 miles, but late in the Fall season. I wanted to just buy another tire then and there, but delayed that for winter, gathering another 2,000 miles totalling 9,000 for that junk.

That dead tire is crown worn bad too, take another look and it ain't camera angle. It is scalloped as well. Just total junk, but it was total junk on the show room floor.

I still think side by side it is taller than stock, just not much. I was hot when the pic was taken, so I screwed up getting the screw driver leveled.. But never the less to me the SP5000 is still a bit taller... maybe not when you have junk next to new..

And even if I get only 10,000 miles out of the SP 5000 IMO the ride will have been worth it.

Time will only tell.

After hitting the jeep that hit the Moose I looked over both tires. The jeep shed hard plastic shards i also ran over, and the new D 251F front radial was pinched by a raggety edge ft fender, I peeled up with a claw hammer at the scene.

Before I could peel the fender off the tire 6 guys helped me pull the bike out from under the jeep bumper backing me out enough to get around a dead jeep.

At that point I fired up the engine again, and rode to the road shoulder, thinking this isn't going to be good.. But the ft tire shows no signs of damage either, and I was expecting it too.
